Been looking to buy a new multimedia desktop PC. Newegg has the best price I've found online for the model I want. Are their products all new, closeouts, returns etc. I dunno. This machine is a Win7 model which doesn't bother me, sounds like a leftover/ closeout model to me but I dunno. Is there anything to beware of buying from them? Also, what is the usual free shipping delivery time and is it worth expediting shipping? TIA

Newgg? Never had any problems with them. I don't generally order anything online I need right now, so I never opt for the expedited shipping. My experiences with them has always been positive overall, I wouldn't hesitate to deal with them on any purchase I wanted that they had.

I'll throw in Dell outlet too, per other GRMers' suggestions. Great experience, 20% off, free shipping, yada yada.

Dells are good for an appliance that runs Windows. Normally overbuilt cooling systems, but they tend to use cheaper parts. Opt for a faster hard drive, and upgrade the RAM yourself. Put in a $20 video card, and you've got a pretty decent desktop that didn't cost you an arm and a leg.

Have you considered putting one together from parts? I do it for GRMers for free if they ship the parts to me and pay for shipping to them.

Newegg shipping is usually like 3 days to me here in Florida. Not bad considering it comes from California.

I've been a big Newegg customer for years, but lately I've been buying more stuff from Amazon because they have better prices on some stuff, and I get free shipping with Prime.

newegg stuff is only refurb or open box if it says so
We've had very good luck with newegg.
I got my current HD cam from them for 1/2 off list price because it was a refurb. I then paid for faster shipping and $2 for same day processing. Got the camera two days later, only paid for 3-4 day shipping.
We got the wife's computer from them too. $1000 laptop for about $700, brand new in box.

I've ordered a lot of stuff from them over the last 10 years. Customer service has always been top notch even when I fried one of the motherboards from being stupid.

The free shipping is usually 5 business days though I've received it in under 3 days before.

I bought my new I core 5 desktop from tiger direct and I love it. They have "barebones" kits and you add or use your existing extras.

I buy everything electronic from newegg. They ship fast, usually have some way for me to get free shipping and stuff gets here the next day without expedited shipping. Most of their stuff comes out of Edison, NJ but YMMV, every once in a while it takes a week from CA.

I have used them for NAS, drives, laptops, built from scratch hackintoshs... ODBII readers, Canon batteries, USB sticks, you name it... over the last many years for my toys and my & the wife's businesses with no mistakes or troubles with returns.

Consider me a very happy customer. Right up there with McMaster-Carr.

I've done a lot of buying through Newegg (two homebuilt PCs and a myriad of gadgets and upgrades) and it has always been a positive experience.

I have no idea how they get things to ship so quickly.

Love newegg myself. My only issue was it cost me about $40 to RMA my previous laptop. $15 for return shipping, $25 for the "free with purchase" router that I couldn't return.

Other wise 3 laptops, multiple ram upgrades, lots of other little gadgets and parts.

Somebody got good service from Newegg with my credit card. Because of that they told me I cannot order from them unless I make the bad debt good.

I've ordered odds and ends for other builds on Tigerdirect. I stopped using them because the website looked like Sundays HHGregg flyer and Neweggs power search function was much much better.

Love newegg, I use them and Fry's electronics extensively when building PCs. I tend to buy my hard drives from Fry's because Newegg doesn't pack them very well sometimes and that causes DOA or early failure issues.

One more Newegg fan.

And Monoprice for cables, etc.

Newegg accepts PayPal and from my experience, Paypal always makes things right if there is an issue.

Have spent thousands & thousands with Newegg over the years, rarely do I buy electronics/hardware elsewhere.

I have built, repaired, & upgraded countless PCs from them. I've never had any huge problems with Newegg themselves, shipping companies have been another problem, but Newegg always stood behind their products, and made things right. I've even talked to real live humans the hand full of times I've ever needed to.

We ordered our 46" Samsung LCD from them, hamfisted mouth breathers at some loading dock busted the screen during shipping. Newegg RMA process, though inconvenient, was easy. The busted TV was picked up at the house, and Newegg gave us $50 for our trouble.

I had a DOA powersupply, for a PC build, Newegg shipped me a new one, didn't even request an RMA or have me ship the dead one back to them.

I've had a a few cheap motherboards arrive DOA, flake out shortly after setup, etc. never had any issues getting replacements.

While I'm a huge Newegg fan, I've been treated right by Tiger Direct, Geeks.com, and Amazon too, I just use Newegg A LOT more.

For ready made PCs/Laptops I'll second or third the Dell Outlet, though I'll caveat that with, Dell "Business" Outlet. I'm not easy on electronics, the Vostro, Latitude, & Precision lines of laptops available through the Business website are much more robust than the Inspirons & XPS lines available at the Home & Office website.

I got a pretty kick ass Vostro 3550 via the Dell Business Outlet a bit over a year ago, i5, 320 Gb 7200 RPM HD, AMD 6630m Dedicated GPU (switches on demand with intel HD), DVD burner, only 3 Gb Ram, blah, blah, blah, all shipped for just under $500. I had 8 Gb of RAM I ordered from Newegg to upgrade the laptop ready & waiting a couple days before the laptop showed up.

I used the Dell 1 year warranty with no issues to replace the DVD drive when it quit working. Dell online support chat session lead to them sending me a new DVD drive, they even offered to send someone to my house and install it for me, I declined.

So yes Newegg is good, and Dell Outlet is good. I got a little long winded there.

I've bought from Tiger more than once. I've heard of people getting no joy on their mail-in refunds, but I never had an issue.

I always feel a little lucky when I get my order in one piece from Tiger, where I expect that from Newegg, if that makes any sense.

Now that the PC is ordered I'll pick up peripherals locally, Staples is a few minutes away. Their stock is limited but appears adequate. Microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse, Logitech 30W speakers are prolly ok. Monitors there are pretty limited but there's an Acer 24" that don't look bad, under two bills. Good brand? I really don't wanna order online n wait any more. The other office/ box stores are 30-50 miles away and I'm berkeleying tired. Trying to read reviews off this goddam phone sucks too. Whats a good monitor mfg, what should I stay away from?

I ordered my computer Saturday expecting it to ship Monday. Through a credit card snafu the transaction was held up till later Monday evening so w/ newegg 3 day shipping I fully expected to receive shipment Thurs.- Fri. When Fed-Ex delivered before noon (Wed.) I was ecstatic.... less than a day n a half delivery.

Count me totally impressed w/ my first Newegg experience.
