I've noticed a trend...

Maybe it's just because I notice them more as they're pretty ugly cars...

But the new arsehole car...

..has to be the Prius.

I know a lot of jackholes drive Hummers but I've seen more jackassery with Prius's than anything else in the last 6 mo's.

Opinions?

I concure. i think it boils down to the "prius/smug" episode of south park.

The prius is part of "EcoHypocracy". Better milage, less emisions, but what about disposal of the vehicle and the battery packs when the vehicle is dead? Same with soy, it is this supposed wonder crop. The down side, first it is like corn in how it degrades the soil, and second, a lot of the south american Rain forest is being clear cut for more land to grow soy.

I always found it amusing in Portland when it snowed I would be driving around in the old Stratus just fine and these people in freakin Hummers would be just barely crawling along.

I agree on the Prius.. and not just because of the smug factor.. everyone I know who has one.. all are intent on sqeezing the last ounce of miliage from their cars that they can.. if this means they run lights as they just turned red, slow but do not stop for signs, drafting behind larger vehicles, and going 50mph on the highyway when there is nobody to draft.. so be it.

It's gotten to the point where I do not ride with my one friend. He always has the "energy gage" up on the dash showing which way the power is going.. and I swear he drives with one eye glued to it at all times

Not around here. All the Prius owners see to be ~50 year old women, most of whom seem to have about a 5-mile or less commute to their work, based on what I see everyday.

Went out to eat last weekend & saw a white C5 Vette in the lot with the red/white/blue stars & stripes decal down the side. The we walked in & saw the ~60 year old guy with the matching shirt!

The Corvettes I see on the road are apparently governed to 5 mph under the speed limit at all times. COME ON! If you're going to do that, I'll trade you my Volvo's engine for that useless LSX.

Monstrous jacked up trucks and fart canned cars seem to get the highest ratio of a-holes around here...I'm not brand particular, that seems to be a lot harder to correlate.

I've seen a few Prius shiny happy persons myself. Typically women driving them. But around here, I would say that the worst shiny happy persons have to be Chrysler product drivers. It's like they are saying: I have zero respect for myself or my vehicle, which is why I drive a Cumulo-Avenger-Ram-Stratus, so I therefore have zero respect for you and I'm going to tailgate you at 80 in the slow lane in traffic.

Hybrid owners in general are usually a-holes. They are the ones at work that sit there and try breathing down your neck while you are working on their car. Then they compliment that with remarks like "this is a hybrid...do you know what you are doing?" Then bitch when you tell them they can't be on the shop floor and think you are going to sabotage their car.

S2000 owners are pretty whinny biatches as well, I group them in the same category as most Vette owners. Think just because they drive top of the line products from that company that they are somehow "cool" and "awesome!" and know everything.

Then there are the M class owners.....to them everything else is sh*t. Like for example, my friend has an E36 M3, I blew past him in a race, his excuse "my car still looks better and handles better, and isn't American."

I have never gotten a really bad vibe from Mercedes owners though. There is the occasional G-unit driving one, but none have ever really rubbed me the wrong way.

Around nashville it seems to be late-model GM "crossover" SUVs that are weaving in and out of traffic, and generally being asshats.

i had no idea driving in a fuel efficent fashion made you a jackass. I guess i could see it being more of a problem in parts of the country that have mostly 2 lane roads and few places to legaly pass.

The group that tends to piss me off i would say is the lifted truck/hummer type crowed. Seems a lot of people driving these vehicles takes the attitude that because they are in a bigger vehicle then you they can ignore your turn signals, ride your ass when your 15 above the speed limit, in general drive like a dick, etc.

Priuses around here are driven within an inch of their lives. I guess the owners believe that because it's a hybrid it magically will get incredible gas mileage even at 80 mph.

Corvettes driving five under the limit, yes. Late model BMW and Porsche owners doing the same thing, yes.

Any woman in any SUV that could be considered 'upscale' is a menace and believes she is the master of that thing called 'drafting' she saw once on a NASCAR broadcast.

Not always true, I think part of that problem is that most of them are just morons and daydreaming about what new designer purse they are going to purchase next. In turn, they drive all over the road, ride peoples asses, and so on and don't even realize it. To prove it, try this test: When you see one of these "women" driving like an ass, honk your horn. They will look up in the air like an airplane just honked at them or something. They'll never look side to side.

I'm siding with the Prius drivers suck crowd. Just to needle a guy I used to flew with, I kept telling him how my BMW got the same if not better mileage than his Prius, and polluted less. He was geniunley angry with me, until we landed and he watched me throw my leg over it and ride home.

It does if you're impeding traffic or being a danger to others. I have no problem with people doing 5 under the speed limit, right until the point where they don't use the turn-out.

I have to agree about the Prii, though. 9 out of 10 that I see are trying to hypermile to the point of screwing anyone else on the road, and the other one is doing 100 in the carpool lane.

I find it entirely hypocritical to buy a new hybrid rather than buying a used car. Sure, you're getting a few more mpgs, but how much energy was spent in making that car? Refining all the products in your new car? What happened to Recycle, Reduce, Reuse?

Most priuses are purchased new for the same reason BMW or Mercedes are purchased new. They are in style. Maybe some owners justify it by saying they are saving the environment or reducing oil consumtion or whatever but thats just a side benefit.

Most BMW or Mercedes owners will tell you they wanted a superior ride quality or luxury or blah blah blah. Thats mostly bs too, they are just keeping up with their friends.

I recently drove from New England to Florida. It appears that the Cadillac Escalade is offered in two colors: Black and White.

All are driven with impunity.
