Time to start working on stuff at night or something.  To make matters worse, neighbor across the street cut down a dying oak tree.  Temps in the front yard/driveway/garage instantly jumped 10-15 degrees.  Last summer wasn't anywhere near this bad this early.

I quit.

Weird. I thought this summer was less E36 M3ty than the last one, and you're only about 2 hours from me. Working at night is a definite though.

Would love to cut down a oak tree on my property. However, County won't allow it. It is $100,000 fine to cut it down.

So due to property values, developers buy property, cut down oak trees, pay the $100k fine, and build house, and make it 10x over.

I wish I could afford to cut down the oak tree. Worst thing in my life right now

Two record setting days in Tampa this week, I think.

Last summer was great.  I remember that cause I kept teasing some friends that were moving back up north that Florida was trying to entice them to stay.

That really cannot be a thing. Even California is not that crazy unless it is an endangered species like a Torrey Pines. Shove some copper nails in the base of the tree and watch it die.

EDIT.

i stand corrected California is that stupid apparently and you need a permit in some citys to cut branchs thicker then 1 inch. 373,000 fine for a homeowner who was ordered by a city to clear trees around a powerline then sued them for no permit.

Here in Tampa/Hillsborough county you have to get a permit before you can cut them down, otherwise it is a hefty fine.

I have a 70s block house and by mid afternoon everything is heat soaked and the internal temp goes up to 79 with the AC running. Probably my fault, of course, for not having the $$$$ to replace all the windows. Gotta love Florida...

I'll be honest this summer has kicked my old ass more than usual.  I think it's a combo of more dehydration at work and me trying to still do my car stuff outside on the weekends.  This Sahara dust cloud today is actually nice in how cool it is.

Dude, I feel your pain:

I was trying to work on my truck in the garage. Which quickly turned into a case of BERKELEY THIS.

With this hot humid weather, I have noticed a huge increase in cockroaches in my house. I have found about a dozen German roaches and two huge American cockroaches. I berkeleying hate cockroaches. I'm about to burn this place to the ground.

Hot here in ole Georgy too. 95 plus humid. I worked around the yard today off and on all day but nothing too strenuous. Took breaks and such. We're fast approaching the part of the year where southerners get cabin fever from huddling  in air conditioning.

EDIT: just checked it's 9pm, sun just set, heat index is still 90

I'm already glad I spent a metric berkeleyton of money on spray foam insulation for the new house. Went up there to paint today, and even with full sun and no clouds, high of 80° outside, and no A/C or airflow at all inside, it was maybe 65° inside all day long. Even the garage was a nice 72-75° with only R9 garage doors and blown-in fiberglass in the walls.

Well, it seems like a lot of you folks complaning about the heat are in Southern states. I understand. And it sounds a lot like what we in the Northern states complain about in the winter months: snow, ice, and extreme cold (polar vortex). Everything is relative. In my opinion, here in SoNE since the beginning of June, anyway, we're having a great late spring/early summer. I'm enjoying what I consider to be my kind of weather. I like what we have here this time of year, even though I don't like what winter brings. So I put up with winter here to enjoy this.smiley

BTW, Annie and I spend two weeks in November and two weeks in February in Palm Springs, CA. The desert. Here's the near-term forecast. We don't go there in the summer. They probably wouldn't travel to the Northeast in the winter.

Yes! Didn't understand the reverse-cabin fever before moving to South Florida, but that's exactly what it is.

For everybody that can put a window unit or mini-split in their garage, just do it. It makes wrenching bearable, and progress possible.

I’ll stop complaining about upper 80’s and drippy himidity in the Cincinnati area after seeing what you Floridians are dealing with, but I still won’t like it.

Palm Springs heat compared to Florida heat is quite different.

Dry heat is much more bearable than humid heat, just need to find some shade.

We had over 80% humidity here today and it was a beautiful sunny day. This was today around 2pm. Spent all day in the pool with the kids.

This is now at 10pm and still 80% humidity. Looks like it will be warmer tomorrow.

No. I've heard about "it's not the heat it's the humidity" before. Heat is heat. The CA desert in summer is extremely hot, debilitating, whether the humidity is 15% or 90%. Try it sometime. I've been in Palm Springs in September in 100 degree heat and low humidity. It's withering, even in the shade.

It's not the same, NOAA agrees:

I've walked down the strip in Vegas in July rehydrating from my 12 pack of beer.  Not the same.  Also for cold I've been in Steamboat Springs, Colorado in Feb and thought it was great.  Humid weather to either extreme is way different.

Was at Yuma Proving Grounds last August, been in Kuwait in early Summer, others at various times.  Dry heat is not the same as wet heat.

Neither are fun, but it takes 10-15 degrees more in the desert to reach the same skin-feel temp in the swamp.

Man that close to 100 with Florida humidity is dumb. Only time I've been in state was in April and it was <90. Still uncomfortable. Around here it's been 100-105 for a few weeks but with no humidity it's not so bad. Stay hydrated.

Tried to stay hydrated.  I have a 40oz Takeya insulated thermos, refilled it three or four times today.  Towards the end it didn't even feel like the water was cooling me off or being absorbed. Just felt like it was converted directly to sweat.

That's when I went inside.  Was just absolutely brutal
