here's a what would you do in my shoes situation:

i post a part - not a cheap part but a corvette part - which can be very expensive - on a corvette forum.

i list my asking price in terms of US dollars - and post two prices. one for if i have to box up said item which would require lots of bubble wrap, time, and care and one for if you pick it up in person negating the need for the extra business. price difference is $50

guy sends PM - asks how much if he picks it up - minus one part of the deal which i was willing to sell separately. i quote him a price without said part, if he picks it up. typical "will you hold it till thursday" deal ensues - i say sure why not.

thursday comes, i get a PM - i have the money, where do it send it? - i say ok wtf - where are you at? he says he wants it shipped so in the spirit of benefit of the doubt i tell him add $30 for fedex and mail me a money order.

so today(this was two thursdays ago) a money order shows up - for the price - not including the $30 for shipping.

so what do you do in this situation? i sent him a nice calm PM stating the situation very plainly - i quoted you $A + $B shipping and received $A instead of $C - what would you like to do about the situation?

i'm A: very pissed off that his original claim was to pick it up - because i'd have told him $50 more if i knew i had to do all the packing and take valuable time going to fedex

i'm also B: pissed at the lack of comprehension and reading skills

add to that i'm C: pissed that it took 13 days to get the incorrect amount here

first non smooth transaction in a long time - must be murphy's law since everything is so insane right now - things go nice and smooth when there is plenty of time to take care of business.

My gut feeling says he led you on about picking it up on purpose, with the sole intent of trying to get free shipping out of you. I'd also guess he held off so long getting you the m/o hoping you'd be desperate & disgusted enough to just ship it to him for that amount.

Has anyone else said they want it? I'd be damn tempted to mail the m/o back to him & sell it to the next buyer.

I would send his money back and relist the item.

Send it back and tell him to send the correct amount, relist the item.

Instead of assuming he's trying to rip you off I'd call or email the guy and let him know that he sent the wrong amount. He may just be stupid.

Not assuming anything, send him the money back and relist. When he asks why, tell him he failed to meet your written requirements for the sale. Then advise him that he can still purchase it if he does meet the requirements, ie send the correct amount of money as stated.

yep, print out the string of PMs, postings, emails, whatever, and fold them around the insufficient funds when you return them. not your fault he's either dumb or a shyster or both.

You made the sale too complicated. Nothing is stupider than the average consumer. Next time, one price including what you want to package it. Everyone pays the same price.

Edit. Re-list it. Life is too short to deal with people who can't follow simple directions.

Yeah, too bad you got jerked off for two weeks, but Angry put my thoughts together exactly.

Maybe you should go for the 'Vette forum just to recoup some extra cash to ease your frustration.
