no smart phone or any other "new and better" electronic thingys ... I have a Net10 ... it's turned OFF unless I want to make a call, or if I'm traveling ... no voice mail ... if you call and the phones off .. call the house ... I do have voice mail there ...
and if you work where I do and you're not a "boss" you won't be working there if you're on the phone any time other than before, after, or during break
My cellphone makes phone calls ,and that's it. Last month the bill showed 5 minutes of use. The easy way to assure no one bothers me is to not give them the number ! If you want me call the house phone and leave a message.
I thought theiPad and iPhone made my job easier. It does, but it also means I can be available for everything at all kinds of hours. I have all kind of work tools in my hands along with a home office.
Many days I have to walk away from the technology package and go hide out in the garage.
When I feel like walking away from technology, I pick up my nook and read.
I'm am the One Percent. Of people that don't have a "smart phone." I've never sent a text in my life. I left my cell phone at home yesterday and I didn't miss it. At all.
I would love to see an anti-technology movement gain a foothold. Most people are hopelessly addicted. And this from a tech geek.

I actually got to bed at a reasonable hour last night. I even woke up in time to not be rushed to my first class.

I wonder if we could get a mail-ring going and do away with this board.
So far I've only managed to evict the idiot box in the living room from my life, haven't watched tv except for sports (football, hockey, baseball, speed) and the odd Comedy Central special or move since April and haven't missed it at all. TV shows universally suck on some base level to me and I can't stand watching them; maybe its just being away from it long enough to break its grip? Probably going to cancel my netflix account soon too, barely if ever use it now especially with the unseasonably warm weather we've been having.
I like my smartphone though. GPS and p+s camera with me whereever I go is useful, so is being to google something I'm looking for on the go. Streaming pandora is nice for entertainment, so is the FM tuner, mp3's on the SD card, and netflix app (until I cancel lol). I rarely make phone calls but like being able to text friends when I'm at work or doing something else so I (and they) can converse when its appropriate or convenient is nice too. It also gives me a way to stay in touch with my dad who is out wandering the earth in his retirement and almost never charges his cell phone, preferring to use email instead to set up a time to talk.

No smart phone, no home phone, no cable. I guess I'm ahead of the curve.
At Christmas, my brother-in-law asked, "How can you live?" My response - "I have a welder" - was a bit obtuse, but I hope he understood my meaning.
He watches Discovery/TLC rubbish about shiny happy people building motorcycles. I would rather go to the garage and build something than sit on a couch and watch someone else build stuff.
I prefer spending time posting on the Internet, about how my semi-luddite lifestyle puts me far ahead, on the evolutionary scale, then the rest of the filthy philistines that inhabit this rock.

They're like the hipster version of sheltered people... Because technology is so bad for us.

After 48 hours of no facebook and no netflix, I have found that in my spare time I do quite a few productive things.
I've started exercising more, I've been working on Vedessi more, I've been getting more sleep, and I've been socializing more.
I used to complain about there not being enough hours in the day. I may have figured out why.
For what it's worth, anyway.

Wow, you guys have plenty of snark today.
I'll admit that I am not able to build stuff to the quality - or anywhere near the speed - of GRMers like Nashco and Wheels777, but I take pride in the fact that I'm trying.
It's just sometimes the level sanctimony gets to be a bit much, so over the top sarcasm is needed.
But certainly you guys see the irony in posting about technology using two of the greatest technological innovations in the modern world (computers and Internet).

Those aren't the best... see below!
Spirit. Thank you. Thank you for providing us with the direct-port nitrous... uh... injection, four-core intercoolers, an' ball-bearing turbos, and... um... titanium valve springs. Thank you.

What do you guys use for a phone?
I just haven't been able to find a 'regular' phone that handles as well as the iPhones. Plus, the iPhone/Android is like the swiss army chainsaw of phones.
It's called the Jitterbug or Dingleberry or something like that. It's on infomercials on daytime TV for old people. It has giant buttons and only does calls. I think they make one with a rotary dial, too. I've actually considered getting one because I hate my smartphone.

Where do I sign up?

What do you mean "handles?"
I get better reception with my 5 year old flip phone than anything else i've ever used.
We just put wider tires and stiff coil overs on. Handles like a dream.
