Are you installing the porch roof at the same height on the house as the existing roof? Looks like you have room to install it higher, even close to the level of the house roof, to gain a few more inches of clearance. I like the white painted wood/clear pergola on that house. Do you need shade too or just weather cover?
I'll be installing it a bit higher. The plan is to take it up to about 1" below the flashing/drip rail you can see on the roof. Then I can brake some aluminum and stuff it up under that drip rail to make flashing for the new roof.
The red line is the new ledger height and the green will be the flashing.
I don't really need the shade. I might consider some smoke-tinted plastic up there to split the difference... and I go to Canada for the hottest parts of the summer anyway. My buddy's college-age son lives there in the summer and looks after the place. I'll let him suffer in the heat.
I really wish I could bring down some Canadian lumber. The PT they have up there is treated with something different and it looks almost like a medium-stained cedar or redwood. Not like the green stuff we have down here.
Yep, nothing worse than leaving your audience hanging...

Great. Into its third season and I finally got around to staining the wood this year. No one has died and it has supported snow every winter.

Well that's sad!
Knowing Curtis, I really wanted to see a large plasma TV that folded down from the ceiling, surround sound, and a hidden bar that popped up from the floor!
Where's the concealed fire pit for ambiance??
C'mon, man! You've had 4 years!!

Haaaa.... The fire pit is about 20' away in the back yard. And no Plasma TV, but I do have a 5k LCD projector that shoots onto a screen on the side of the garage. Does that count?
And yes... Surround sound, shown here removed from the purlins while I stained the wood. I should probably also mention that the audio can be bluetoothed (if that's a verb) from the streaming stick, my phone, or the stereo inside the house, and can all be controlled from my phone.
