Ugh, going on week 3 of unrelenting agony. Can't get in to see my own doc until at least another week, but the hospital gave me a prescription for Tylenol 3 with codeine. X-Rays show some arthritis (not surprising, considering the number of brutal riding falls I've had) with nerve impingement in my neck. Doesn't look like there's a disc problem, but won't know for sure until my own doc books an MRI. I hate the meds, but the pinched nerve is exactly like whacking an elbow on a corner very hard and having that agonizing funny bone pain... all the way from neck down through my elbow. Bloody hell.
Ouch. I hope you feel better and can get in to see a real Dr soon.
Ugh. That sounds horrible Lesley. I hope the doc has good news for ya after the MRI.
Sux2BU. Sounds like a disk, or an instability. After the MRI, find a neurosurgeon to take a look at it and examine you. I think you are looking at a whack.

I thought disc for sure, but the emerg doc said no. Getting really sick of this, my freaking tricep is vibrating.
Best of luck. Don't get on the oxy's until you want to shoot yourself in the head. They suck in many many ways.

No, I wouldn't touch them. As an addictive personality I don't even drink.

Ouch. I just had a second nerve block done on Tuesday...feels better, but weird.
Get it done soonage.
Ah Tylenol 3s. They don't stop the pain, it just they make it so that you don't care.

I've read about those. Hoping I don't have to have to go that route. But I'd also rather not keep taking meds either.
I had a nerve block done when they put my ankle back together. It was an odd feeling, but oh so much better than feeling the broken bone. I would have a nerve block again if I were in a position to need it. Hopefully never.

The main goal was to kill the pain completely...the second was to be off of meds (Lyrica currently) altogether. Too soon to tell, but I am feeling a bit better. The first block was done in March and it didn't hurt very much. Tuesday's block was excruciating...and I'm used to pain...being married and all.

What was it for, back, neck?
One nice thing about the meds is I actually had a really good night's sleep for the first time in ages.
I hate Tylenol 3's I don't know why they still prescribe those. Ibuprofen is a far better painkiller and you don't get wasted.

My left pec, I did something to it 3 years ago. Tried cortisone/vicodin...whatever. I wanted it gone. They block it by using a needle in your back, under each rib coming out from the spine.
I'm not sure what a good nights sleep is any more.
Plus, with all of the traveling that you do, I am sure that you are aggravating it quite a bit.

Ibuprofen wasn't helping.
Yeah, all the sitting and squashing myself into cramped spaces for prolonged periods
has taken its toll.
NOT A CANOE!!! Also, not a Dr. of any sort so with the disclaimers out of the way...
I know neck area is a sensitive issue when considering chiropractic, so I will just drop it as an idea that might be worth considering. Specifically a chiropractor that uses the activator method instead of the "old school" method or as the primary treatment method before going all "ninja" on you. I know it is not the end all/be all and the quacks will tell you they can fix anything, but if you find the right one that is realistic regarding the actual cause of your problem they can make a real difference.
Hope you feel better soon!

I'll second what both Dr Hess and secretariata said … there's lots of good that can be had from either
but also like secretariata said … choose carefully

Yeah, I'm not opposed to chiro treatment, but I'm gonna wait until after I get in to see my own doc. At least I'm sleeping now.
Going to Laguna Seca this weekend, I'll probably find a good spot and just plant myself (like the hospitality room ;-P) since lugging camera gear all over the place ain't happening.
I was prescribed ibuprofen for back pain last fall. Been given it before for various reasons..
I feel as though it doesn't do anything for me. Doesn't take away the back pain. It also doesn't do much for my knees, except sometimes take a bit of the pain away.
On the other hand, Vicodin or similar (Tylenol 3 as well) leave me feeling almost hungover the next morning. I hate it.
Tylenol3 is absolutely habit forming. Maybe not so much as the good stuff, but it's one of those drugs that I don't take unless pain is soul crushing. Your results may vary.
I would camp out in the Doc's office until he saw me.
Codeine does not block pain, it just makes it so you don't care.
2 max dose Tylenol and 2 max dose Asprin 3 times a day. The 2 mixed together provide superior relief, take them before you start hurting, after is too late.

I would bet $5 you have a herniated disc or three. I just went through this exact thing. Are you having numbness in your arm?
Take 2 over the counter Aleve twice a day. You can stack that with Tylenol-3 at night if you need help sleeping.
Apply ice on the back of your neck for 20 minutes at a time. This will help with the swelling of your bulged/herniated disc that is pushing on your nerves back there and making you feel pain that doesn't actually exist.
Go to Sears and get one of those foam pillows with the dip in the center. That will keep your spine straight and help with the pain and healing process.
when I had severe sciatica, Vicodin was the answer.
Tylenol in any form does not work for me.
Also not good for the liver.
pills are a waste of time... they don't do anything for the problem. When I ruined my back, I was prescribed Zoma, Percidan, and Motrin... big waste of berklying cash
Try a physiotherapist, or chiro... the best thing for the pain... get your doctor to prescribe a TENS machine...
