Then she'll really flip if she ever watches "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert"...

Partial thread hijack:

Seeing elfy there reminds me: If I was Julian Sands, I'd fire my friggin' agent. For him not to be cast as an elf in one or all of the LOTR flicks means somebody wasn't doing their job. Or maybe he's living the sweet life on those fat "Warlock" residuals.

Prophetic, maybe not,

But one could have made a nice sum of money betting someone Predator would star two governors...

Anyone remember the "INFO Net" from The Running man? Who knew?

Funny thing about Robo Cop's 6000 SUX. When the latest re-body of Chevy's Monte Carlos came out, I remember shouting, "Holy crap, they really made a 6000 SUX!" With the right kind of squinty eyes, they do appear similar.

We now have GM and Chrysler going in the hole...hmmm How many more can you guys think of? It really makes me think .Is not it a little unreal?

Funny you mention "The Marching Morons." I read it when I was a kid, and when I saw "Idiocracy", it was the first thing I thought of.

Jaws was based on a real event, the New Jersey attacks of 1916.

I grew up on the NC Outer Banks. The old folks used to tell this story to the kids so we'd stay out of the water when they weren't around (Jaws came out when we were teenagers, and nothing would have stopped us then).

Americathon

From 1979, about a backrupt america (out of oil) and the (then) tiny company of Nike (not yet public) being the biggest company. Many other "predictions as well.

I think idiocracy was a hack on Americathon, or at least the makers of idiocracy watched Americathon before making their film.

I keep hoping for one of the adult flicks to get all prophetic for me but it always seems like whenever a woman says something suggestive like "I want you to clean out my garage" she means that... well, she wants the damned garage cleaned out.

You say "a show called" as if nobody watched it. It was an X-Files spinoff with the awesomest quasi-regular characters, of course we all know what it was. (Right? Right?)

I watched it, anyway.

Not a movie, but there was an episode of Laugh-In where the announcer guy is doing a fake news spot. Here's the entirety of one of his jokes:

"President Ronald Reagan..." (much laughter from the audience)

+0.5 for Idiocracy......... I liked the concept, I just wished it were a little more dark than Mike Judge happy/silly.....perhaps a little more Atlas Shrugged without the heavy socio-political messages mixed in.....

and +1 for Running Man -- aren't the reality shows just about a season or two away from this reality? Isn't that why we have the Biggest Loser -- we're just waiting for an overweight person to have their heart explode on TV?
