my dad smokes.. my son was at there house this am while i was working.. i went to get him after work and dad was puffin away in the breezeway.. i had to keep the deck slider open.. i could barely breath.. and sittin there watchin the smokw linger was really gross... i keep tellin him that we dont want him smokin around our son.. it goes in one ear and out the other... when i did smoke, i never smoked in the car when he was with me and i asked my wife if she minded if i lit up.. and i never ever smoked in the house.. that woulda been my ass if my wife caught me.. so glad to be on the other side of it now.. at work i can tell if customers smoke in our cars... my manager just laughs when i tell him if it was a smoker or not..
Yeah, isn't it amazing how well the sense of smell rebounds? The real celebration for me is being able to smell all the ingredients in a stew. I'm glad there's yet another ustawuz smoker in the world. One day at a time, one day at a time....

only been 3 weeks but it is a start.
WooHoo! Three weeks is awesome! Hang in there.
Stick with it! Remember, tackle it one at a time. Like eating an elephant: one bite at a time.

Really? You already taste food??
It took me nearly a year.
Keep it up!
A lot of how one tastes something, has to do with the sense of smell. Sometimes there's something else that screws up the sense of smell, besides smoking. My MIL has never smoked, but she did have jaundice and some liver damage in the bargain. And part of the package was that she lost much of her sense of smell. Why? Maybe Dr.Hess can say, but the upshot was that her cooking, while never great, became loaded with pepper and salt because she was trying to compensate for not being able to taste well. SWMBO says that her mom's cooking became almost intolerable to eat for a while. After some 'discussions' with her daughters (some loud and long, I'm told...)she decided to allow the daughters to do most of the cooking for a couple years while she re-educated her taste-buds.
If it's been longer than a couple months that your sense of smell has been snafu or not recovering, maybe a visit to an E-N-T doc is in order. There might be something else wonky.

Three weeks is about two and a half weeks longer than my last attempt. Keep going.
i've gotten to the point now that i rarely eat salt anymore just because i seem to be sensitive to salt now go figure.

Keep it up. They say it gets easier the farther along you get.
I have smoked since I was 12. Yeah I know very young but I wanted my new step brothers to like me. Huge mistake! I had cut myself down to 1/4 pack a day in preparation to quit. Went to TN to spend X-mas with my daughter (8yo) and only had 2 a day while there. I bought a pack when there and when I finished it after getting home to TX I have managed not to have any. Went through a bad couple of days a couple of days ago but not too bad.
So here is to all of us that are trying to be or are former smokers. And I hope those that still do will join us soon.
