...Beef or Chicken?
This is possibly the one subject in life that I am absolutely neutral on.

chicken for me but i only use about half a packet of the seasoning with two bags of noodles...i'm on a diet.
Beef. All day, every day. But really, they suck.
I prefer the "more real" variants that come with noodles that are already soft. Way better.
Pork.
I prefer the "roast beef" Maruchan to the "beef", but both are fine.
The chicken, inexplicably, leaves me feeling like my mouth's all slickery-fatty. Just me, I guess.
I tend not to drink the broth. Just eating the noodles is hardly health food, but I think that probably cuts things down a bit. If I have broccoli or mushrooms around, I'll toss those in for the boil as well...
I am haunted by a bowl of real ramen I had in Akihabara in Tokyo a couple of years ago. It was wonderful.
Conversation with a young and silly co-worker a few years back.
Jeff: "Guess what! I have eaten nothing but ramen noodles for months and now I'm rich!
Me: "Seriously?"
Jeff: "Yeah! I've got a thousand dollars in the bank. I only eat like 4 packets a day and that's only a like a dollar or something"
Me: "But......how do you feel? You don't look so hot man"
Jeff: "I pass out sometimes.......I get lots of stomach cramps too."
He paused, tore open a seasoning packet, sprinkled it on the dry uncooked noodle cake in his hand and took a cruchy bite, smiled and said something about buying a new guitar.
About an hour later the medexpress ambulance was out front of the plant loading him up after he passed out and someone saw him. He spent 4 days in the hospital and when he returned to work he always had a huge lunch packed with him.

And meat. And vegetables. And fruit. And whole-grain bread. And milk.
What you guys talking about? That's 300 calories for like six for a dollar or something. On a calories per dollar basis, you just can't beat it. And the MSG induced migraine is just bonus.
After having a real bowl of ramen at few different places, I dont care for the packets. I will eat one in desperation, but it's not a common thing.
Oh and for the record, chicken.
If we are talking the run-of-the-mill variety, then beef.
You guys realize the noodles are deep fryed before they are dried, right? That is how you get that much goodness into a dry noodle brick.
I prefer some of the fancier varieties, but it is hard to beat the cheap stuff at times.
