My lil brother is looking for a car for his 16-year-old daughter Maddie, and once we covered some obvious choices in his $4000 budget, he balked at my suggestion of E46 BMW because his "guy" told him they were way too expensive to work on. I asked who his "guy" was, and turns out it's a tire and wheel chain.
I told him the first thing he needed was a real mechanic if he wanted to spend his money wisely, and that any candidate should go there first to be checked out before purchase. I firmly believe in spending a little money to save a lot.
So, my brother needs a guy. Or gal. Can you recommend me a good shop in Brandon, Florida?
Oh, and feel free to jump in with car suggestions. David is most definitely NOT a car guy, and his budget needs to cover the purchase as well as anything it needs--at a shop--to get it road-worthy.
Thanks!
Margie
Glenn's MG Repair is in St. Pete. Let me see if they have a friendly shop across the causeway. (And I realize I could have just walked over to your office and told you this. Or sent an IM. Or an e-mail.)
Uh, thanks. I think I smell smoke coming from your office.

There is/was a Euro shop on Moon Ave in Brandon. I'll see if I can find the name. Never dealt with them, but never heard anything bad either

Several of the high schools have auto programs that could check a car out for him.
Not Brandon, but I know of an excellent and trustworthy shop in Lakeland
I've gone to Weaver's Automotive on route 60 in Brandon for small stuff (mount tires, turn rotors, alignment). They do what I ask. Buddies gave taken their antiques and Rods there. It's an Independent shop that lives by it's reputation.
They were always competent, prompt, and fairly priced.
310 W Brandon Blvd
(I have a friend with a shop to the south, so I mainly go there for the price break and ability to turn my own wrench.)
Thanks you guys! (And David's office wasn't really on fire. It just cracked me up to tell him that via the forum. Yeah, weird sense of humor...)

And here I figured it was some "smoke rolling out of your ears" joke.... Thoroughly disappointed.

Weird, I thought it was some kind of drug reference. I need to get out more.
Duh, I'm sure David knows better than to forget to put a rolled-up towel at the base of the door.
