You will only be able to fathom why when you are 6 feet under.

I see a lot of skiff around here. The back bays of Southern NJ are a good place to have a skiff. The water tends to be "skinny" in these parts. As noted above, the flat bottom will allow them to plane over anything with minimal HP.. but in rough water will pound terribly.

As for opinions, they are best formed from experience. I have been around boats over half my life (I took a good chunk off due to finances) and I even competed in HS and College on the water rowing 8s. Coming from a long line of sailors, saltwater tends to run in my blood and I am only truly happy when on the water

My point was (and this is my opinion): I think people like the idea of being on nice water and catching some sun (rose colored glasses). However, the reality is that it is never as good as you think it will be. The maintenance stuff and getting to /from the water is just annoying. I am not saying those items are THE reason not to have a boat. I just don't enjoy boats. AND, I think people in general enjoy boats less than they think they do if they really think about it.

So because you hate boats, everyone else must too? And if they say otherwise, really they're just lying to themselves, and secretly you're right and they hate them too? Further, even though you've never owned a boat, you're going to spout off on all the problems associated with said ownership.

Wow. Just wow. I don't think it so much of matter of them wearing rose colored glasses as you wearing whatever color gives you magical powers of projection and condescension.

hey you know.. it's like any of my projects. I enjoy working on them more than I enjoy using them... some would say that owning a boat is perfect for somebody like me

Between this and the "build a boat" thread, so much want. I need to be happy with my kayak or fix either my canoe or my jon.
