I just got a phone call on my cell. The caller ID comes up as Scam Likely.

A little Gigglesing and apparently T Mobile does this to all known scam phone numbers.

I thought that was pretty interesting.

My phone on Project Fi usually does this, the screen turns read with the warning sign so there's no mistake. Of course yesterday I got one that wasn't flagged and it promised me that my Bank of America credit card would be lowered to 0% APR because I have good payment history.

Yea... Who are they fooling with that?

It's not just T-Mobile.   I have craptacular Metro  MCS  service, and they do the same thing.   They don't do much right (besides having cheap rates), but at least they help me screen scams.

I wish my provider would just route them to a "puzzle" that would sort out the robo calls. My VOIP home phone does this where calls with caller id blocked, known robo call numbers, or where the caller id is spoofed ring once and then get sent off to an automated message that gives a 5 digit code the caller must enter to get pushed through. Don't enter the code in time and it hangs up on you. Considering more than 90% of the calls I get are "spam" I would appreciate this on my cell phone also.

That's going to be a the name the hostess calls out the next we are waiting for dinner "Skam Likely - table for two!" And yes that's Skam with a "Kay"

The first thing I will do when I retire, is set my phone to automatically refuse all numbers not on my contacts list. They can go to voicemail.

That's assuming I don't decide to see just how far a smart phone will skip across the ocean.

I was thinking something along the same lines. Somewhere there's a Sean Cameron Likely that can get a damn soul to answer his phone calls.

My kids school comes up as "Scam Likely". Considering the fact that I get more phone calls that have nothing to do with my kids or family from them than anyone else it is pretty accurate.

AT&T has a little app that filters these for you by varying levels.  You can also report scams / spam calls via that app, and issue a variety of block types.  it works pretty well.

Yeah, my Nexus 6P (on T-Mobile) does this.  Works pretty well, something like a 95% hit rate.  I let those calls go to voicemail and, strangely, seem to get a lot of confused spam/scam phone people who can't figure out that they're talking to a voicemail system.

I have a land line with Spectrum and you can turn on a spam filter.  The phone rings once, then nothing when a suspected call comes in.   Most of our calls get a single ring.  At least they are not filling up the answering machine anymore.

Some, as noted, of the cell companies have filters you can turn on also.

My Verizon phone does not do this. Too old of a phone?  S4.

Got a call this morning from what appeared a local number, not on my contact list. (spoofer?)

Didn't answer.

No voicemail but then received the text: Hello?

First time that ever happened. Easier to leave a voicemail, why do that?

I could use that spam filter

Shouldn't be phone based, but it looks like Verizon does not really offer a service (they seem to imply they are so good at detecting them you don't need it frown).  They supposedly do the "spam?" thing, and they do offer to sell you a product.... arg:

You would think the "best" provider would offer a bit more of a solution.

Android phones have done this for a long time regardless of carrier.

I just decline them when they pop up.

Sprint offers it too, but ignores the spoofed numbers. I get a number of them on the same 609-374-xxxx number sequence I am on.

I have not noticed this new feature yet. I don't get that many spam calls to my cell anymore since I started saving all numbers (who aren't already in my contacts) that called but don't leave a message to a contact I have called "Junk". I set my phone to ignore all calls from contact Junk. Obviously this method would not work for a business, but works great for me!

In reply to Duke :

Huh, I wasn't aware of it, I'll have to check it out!

All my recent spam calls have been from similar numbers to my own, which don't fool me, since I'm not from where my phone is.

You'll need to log in to post.
