We just got word from the Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor that they will be showing "Senna"- they will start Friday evening, Sept 2, and will run at least one week.

I know Ines and I will be going, as the rewiews from the Mich Theater people who are not car people at all are quite glowing.

As we get more specifics, I'll post them.

I'm there! I'll be the one dragging a kicking and screaming woman behind me!

I exaggerate. She'll probably just be dragging her feat and rolling her eyes.

And I'll bet she will have a tear in her eye when you leave. The non-car people who have seen it just love it.

I've read some great reviews. The one on Slate was several kinds of awesome referencing the dictatorship and inflation in Brazil AND Kirk and Khan. Heh.

We saw it last Saturday at the Landmark theater in West LA. My wife enjoyed it very much. She's not into racing at all but I can usually drag her to one car event a year. The movie doesn't count, though, because she found Ayrton to be a charismatic and interesting guy.

The crashes are horrific due to their shear size on the big screen along with the full-fidelity sound of ripping metal and screaming engines. The cameras linger on the images of busted-up drivers so it's a very unflinching look at the sport. It's a very compelling look at the scene in general but potentially disturbing to some.

Just letting you know so you can judge for yourself who should come along.

140 miles, hmm, is it worth the 5 hours round trip?

Include more to the trip, maybe. UM has a home FB game on 9/3. Or there's a track day at Waterford on 9/3.

(or look at a more local art theater....)

I have seen a multitude of reviews from non-car people who just rave about the story. Most of them contain some version of, "Why have I never heard of this man?".

We need to pick a time for GRM day at the movies. Maybe get a group rate?

Saw it yesterday morning here in Dallas. It was awesome. Didn't know much about the man going in. There is a bias in the whole Prost/Senna relationship, but what documentary doesn't have some bias. It is emotional at the end so be warned. Don't wait to see it, it will be there for about a week then move on. Don't know how many were "car people" but our theater had about 30 in it for the first show, when we walked out there were about 50 standing in line for the next showing. Btw, if you're in DFW it's showing at the Angelika until Thursday.

No sign of the movie coming to Ft Wayne, any other city as about the same distance away, count me in for the GRM viewing, locals should be looking a restaurant for us all to meet at at, before or after doesn't matter.

Packed house here in LA. Lots of non-car folk. Everyone enjoyed it as far as I could tell.

Saw it on Friday. Awesome. Well done. I think our theater was full of local racers. After the movie we all looked around (most of us a little red around the eyes from the, er, dust in the air) and realized how many people we knew there from the track and other car events.

There is a longer version available online (about 3 hours) that is worth a look after you see it on the big screen. I only found it via Torrents, but that is only because I can't buy it. Yet. It will be purchased though :) May have to see if my friend in the UK can get a copy for me :)

Another thumbs up from me and the missus - it was well worth seeing.

Even being somewhat familiar with his story, there was a bunch of info that was new to me. The pre-race driver meeting segments was like a peek behind the curtain a bit, and a bit humorous to boot. Also, no interviews/talking heads! The whole movie was constructed with original footage, a lot of which most of the English-speaking world hasn't had many chances to see (foreign media, interviews, etc.)

I wanted to take my Formula 1 dreams current kart racer 10-year old, but he wanted to go to a birthday party instead. I'm glad I didn't take him. Although an incredible film and I did have, uh, "dust" in my eyes afterwards, I think some of the scenes and the sheer weight of his death would have been too much for him.

(Plus, it doesn't help that he was in a pretty nasty wreck a while back and just hasn't been himself on the track since then....)

I guess I'm going to have to stay up late on a work night to see this one. At least the theatre is near my house.

Great, now I must see this movie. Unfortunately I can't find a listing anywhere nearby. As a longshot I sent an e-mail to UF's student union to see if they would show it in the cinema.

If anyone is interested, Adrian Thompson and I are going to see "Senna" on Thursday night at the Main Art Theater in Royal Oak.

Anyone from NW Ohio thinking about a road-trip? Starting Saturday I have the next week off. Have room in my recently acquired ZAV for a couple people.
