Those are neat little cars. I wouldn't mind having one for an in-town runabout.
They're excellent cars, reliable as a Estwing hammer. I have a 99 with the newer 1ZZ-FE motor, its a perfect DD and reasonably entertaining on some H rated tires and not the cheapest Monroe shocks. The suspension is Benz levels of competent. The Toyota A engine you would find in a 96 is probably one of the most durable 4 cylinders made. Make sure it isnt burning oil(poor piston/ring design, neglect will clog the oil ring groove return holes fast), the EVAP system can be flaky but isnt terrible to fix if need be, other than that and typical Japanese radiator cracking problems they're trouble free.
Not sure on the 96 but the 98-02 Prizm got Delphi, rather than the Corolla DENSO air con, the Delphi system is a lot more powerful.
The trans loves Redline MT-90.
The trucks I'm looking at are all above 5k, and I have a hard time really finding one I love. Yet I'm willing to seriously consider this because cheap! Lol. If I give in ill just end up with 10 cheap cars that may or may not do what I need.
Still tempting though
