I am trying to ship a kart stand , it is kind of heavy. The dimensions are Length is 36", height is 9 1/2" and width is 30". I would like to ship it VIA greyhound or Fedex/UPS/USPS. Am I able to shrink wrap it or do I have to box it?

I'd remove the wheels to make it fold flatter. Kart stands are fairly tough, you should be able to just shrink wrap it and mail it. You might want to cover it with some cardboard sheets for a little more protection, but that would be more overkill.

I have the wheels off and it collapsed. I bought a box from Uhaul the large mirror box,and have put a bunch of stuffing in. Surprisingly Fedex is cheaper then Greyhound. We will see how things go.

Hey Big Paul, be very careful with fedex and even ups. If your using there online calculator, it DOES NOT include all the fees, and they will HAMMER you when you walk in to the store. Plus if you don't go to FedEx's terminal, and just one of there stores, the DOUBLE HAMMER you with extra charges. From what I learned about fedex is that there store fronts are not company owned, so the owners tack on there own what ever they want fee, and again that's not disclosed at all in any way. I was shipping a VW Westfalia tent to Cali., one time, and all the website quotes were close with fedex being the best. When I got to the store the price was about $60 more than quoted. Unfortunately at that point I didn't have any choice but to send it... Personally I NEVER send anything any other way than usps, even big stuff.
Good Luck
Paul

Hey Paul light,

Where have you been?

Does anybody have experience purchasing the shipping online? does that avoid the tach on fees?

The biggest items I've shipped were a pair of seats and an airdam. The seats went in individual boxes on Greyhound (I think they were $100 from NC to TX) and only took a few days. If the buyer is willing to deal with Greyhound, I'd go that route. The airdam went UPS but I don't recall the cost. I live within a mile or 2 of a UPS terminal so I used them a lot. Online price seemed to be close to actual cost (I blame the scale) but I never prepaid. I learned the hard way that the UPS Store charges their own fees regardless of what the UPS website says.

Yea i work in a ups store and the only reason to bring it to the store is if its either fragile or high value. However the only "fees" we charge are if we are providing the box and packing it but since we are all franchises I can't speak for other stores

Well they took it and it is on its way, didn't pay any extra fees.

Just a update I received my credit card bill, and they tried to charge me a extra $107, saying that because of the dimension and weight it was re-rated and that information should have been informed to me when I dropped it off. I told them it wasn't and they re-rated it and refunded me $107.
