Rule 3.3.3.B.15 (page 38):
"15) Exhaust must exit behind driver or to the side of the car."
Rule 13.10.E (page 79) Stock:
"E. Any part of the exhaust system beyond (downstream from) the header/ manifold or catalytic converter, if so equipped, may be substituted or removed provided the system meets the requirements of 3.5 and 3.3.3.B.15."
Rule 15.10.C.I (page 103) Street Prepared:
"I. Exhaust manifolds and muffler systems are free, except that they must be quiet and terminate behind the driver."
Rule 17.10.L (page 131) Prepared:
"The components of the exhaust system are unrestricted. Exhaust must be compliant with Section 3.3.3.B.15 and may exit through the bodywork."
So you could run an exhaust like that in Prepared...

As long as your car is not street registered and it complies with ALL other restrictions, including the noise ordinances, which would render Ben's dump illegal anyway.
Don't forget that's it a Federal crime to remove vehicle emissions controls, such as catalytic convertors.

I would still do it. The turbo acts as a muffler and no one in Alabama gives a crap.

I was pointing out that it was an illegal exhaust for competition. Not just autocross. It's also illegal for Club Racing, and I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't legal for Rallycross, Rally, or NHRA, either. A car doesn't have to comply with any SCCA rules except safety and noise limits to run in the "Fun Runs" class (non-classified), so saying it's been autocrossed doesn't mean a thing.
It's lazy, it's loud, and it's illegal on the street and the track. Do I really need to harp anymore on why it's lame?

I agree. I said box flair technology to create the air dam. I should have added "make a cardboard/florist foam buck into a desirable shape and go to town with 'glass."
Now if your fenders and quarters were consumed with rust, box flare away. But that would look weird with side pipes. Side exit under some rocker skirts connecting the boxes together could work though.
As an aside, this thread had me looking at what side pipes would be long enough to fit the shop van.
Instead of glass I have pondered heat forming PVC sheet ( my favourite building material.) Its much cheaper and more resilient. For bucks I like to use the blue foam for home insulation. Its abundant around here at new home builds. Asking nicely for the broken sheets out of the dumpster has netted me big scores before.

I get mine through N. Glantz and Sons. Its a sign shop supply company. You can ask you local sign shop and glantz for a price. Honestly you may be able to get it cheaper from the sign shop.
Edit to add:
The sheet comes in 4x8 and 4x10, a few different thicknesses from I believe 3mm to 12mm and a few colours. There is also an outdoor type that you would NOT want to use. Its too ridged.
As far as heat forming it you just apply liberal amounts of heat. I made a heat strip set up with 3x 1inch wide 4foot long industrial heating strips that run on 120v.
Lay your PVC Polycarb (lexan) or Plexiglass on it and flip once then bend and it sets as it cools. At the shop we mostly use this for 90* bends. But more compound shapes can be made. You can even set copy or shapes into PVC and get an impression.
Add to that an industrial heat gun that goes up to 1000* F and you can, with time, work the sheet into all kinds of bends. Use the strips for a long bend and massage it with the heat gun. More guns = faster bending.

Alright, let's be serious here.
1) The car is not Stock legal.
2) The car is not STx legal.
3) The car is not SP legal.
4) The car is not currently even SM legal. (unless i were to add a fuel cell to make the partial gutting of the rear interior legal)
5) It's plenty quiet to meet noise ordinances. Turbos quiet things down nicely. It's easily quieter than 50% of the Spec Civics.
6) The car will never see club racing.
7) The car will never see any kind of racing other than the occasional trip to the drag strip, the GRM Challenge, and maybe the Amery Speed Runs. All of which, it's 100% legal for. If i wanted to do anything serious with a 1st gen MX6, i would not have started with an example that had had over 12 previous owners and had been totaled twice.
8) The car is quieter than the Celica is/was, quieter than the Escort is, and DEFINITELY quieter than the Escort will be. It's no louder than my MSM with a full FM turbo-back exhaust is. It's the only vehicle i own (barring the Jeep) that i can have a conversation inside with a passenger at highway speeds without screaming.
Street Modified and above have no rules for emissions controls. It's fair game. The Escort will have no catalytic converters, and the motor going in it never had any emissions controls in the first place. 100% legal.
As for Federal legality, i'll take my chances. It's been fine thus far. If i happen to get a ticket for it or some hot water of "fix it or don't drive it," then i'll just part it out and scrap the car. I really don't care in the slightest. Already got my money's worth out of the car. If you want to blow the whistle on the car and see if someone in this state will care enough to track me down, knock yourself out. The car is worth more parted out than it is sold as a whole apparently anyways. I've tried to sell it three times. Parting it out would get me a nice V6 manual Camry.
