Ya know, I used to be a HUGE Slayer fan, but this sounds almost exactly like what they've been putting out for decades. They've never really grown as a band, when I want to listen to Slayer I just usually listen to the older stuff.

While true, you at least know what you're going to get.

I'm not much a fan of their newer stuff. And that godawful punk covers EP. And their fake live EP. Basically there is a hair over six hours of Slayer that I listen to, and coincidentally enough the furthest rallycrosses I regularly go to are six hours away, so I can listen to the whole (expurgated) Slayer discography in one trip.

Although to be honest, half the time I'll just set it to the Reign In Blood album and throw that on repeat, and leave it that way for a month or two.

I saw an interview with Kerry King where he addressed that: People say we're still in the same corner and, you know, I like this corner.

I saw Slayer about 10 years ago (before Jeff Hanneman passed) and it was an awesome show. Slipnot opening for them definitely helped set the vibe for the night. And would love to see them again.

I thought 'God Hates Us All' was a solid album. I really like the guitar tones on that one. My first taste of them was 'Diabolus In Musica' my freshman year of high school but I like their older stuff too. Just good solid metal.

You know, you can be slayer and make the same album a bunch of times. Good, solid metal. Or- you can make St. Anger. I know what I'd rather listen to.

Post-Black album Metallica is dead to me. Not that I don't like a band that gradually changes, but they just weren't good albums after that.

Death Magnetic was a pathetic attempt to recreate ....And Justice For All.

This thread brought back memories. Saw them tiwce, I believe, in the late 80s as part of a 4-some tour (forget the name, coffee hasn't kicked in yet) with Anthrax, Megadeth, and someone else (again, coffee....)

EDIT - Eureka! Caffeine kicked in, it was Dio I believe and Clash of the Titans!

never seen SLAYER in concert and everything that i've heard after Seasons In the Abyss sounds pretty much the same to me.. they found their nice steady niche that keeps the paychecks rolling in, good for them, but i personally won't buy the same album over and over just because i liked them 25 years ago..
