Last week the intern showed me how to Snapchat.
Now I have to show her how to program a VCR.
I don't see this replacing Instagram for me, though. I mean, come on, it's Instagram.

Sounds like a funny discussion with my Dutch boss on why Chat Roulette was not a good app for him to try out.

Grumpy much?
Ex-SWMBO showed me Snapchat, sending silly videos of her and her sisters back and forth. I think the last time I used the app was to make a video of a car behind me at RX Nationals in October. Meh.
Snapchat is great fun. You can send a picture that's viewable up to 10 seconds and you can add a line of text and draw on top of the photo. Or you can put a 10 second video and do the text or drawing thing too. Snapchat only goes to the people you want it to.
I find I filter a out a lot a garbage before anything goes to Instagram, but snapchat is like the 'whatever pile' of funny. Like a one second picture of a dirty diaper with a drawing of Godzilla coming out of it...
I don't get it. I can send pictures to people several different ways, and videos too. Why do I need a new one? And it disappears after one second. Big deal, I can delete a photo or video when I am done with it, and I can screen capture a snapchat photo. It's like hooking up a shredder to your fax machine.

That's kind of the point, the idea behind Snapchat is that the pictures are deleted and are only available for temporary viewing.
Of course this relies on the same computing fallacies as DRM - to get straight to the point, it's nothing a screenshot can't fix.
But the drawing and text is where the magic happens. The screen capture thing keeps things relatively clean, at least in my circle of friends. The way I look at it Instagram/Flicker: High Brow. Snapchat: Lowest Common Denominator, People of Walmart, TMZ,...(Imgur, too!)

At least, that's what they claim. There are several ways out there to circumvent having the pictures deleted.

It will keep your head down, looking at your phone.
What, you got something better to do?
