Its ok we have all been there
In all honesty I don't really have anything against .40 SW I just don't have much use for it personally. My local shop basically can't move the things the same 4 guns in that caliber have been sitting on his shelves for more than 2 years. He does have a Beretta Brigadier Model 96 that I wouldn't mind trying but it is double action only.
Dude .40 SW is awesome. More rounds than .45ACP in a normal mag, a ton more stopping power than 9mm, the simulation ballistics testing that I've read (admittedly a bit on the older side) actually names a few .40 SW rounds as being better than .45ACP or even 44 mag rounds at stopping. That an the kick manageable, and a lot of good guns are chambered in that size.

SSSsshhhhhhh!!!
Don't cause a run on ammo I can still get.
Tuna it is just a personal preference I have always liked the 45. If I want smaller and more capacity I drop to a 9mm normally loaded with Critical Duty ammo these days. With either I can hit my mark at 25 yards no problem. I may try 40 at sometime but doubt I would ever convert to it.
As for shotgun ammo target loads are still widely available and defense loads are out there with minor digging. For reloading at least around here you can still get shotgun primers as well
My EDC is a 10+1rd .45. That same gun chambered in the .40 is also 10+1. It's a 12+1 in a 9mm. So the old "carry more rounds" diatribe is old and not consistent. If you're carrying a single stack, then yes.

I prefer .357sig......much better than 40sw.
I like big holes. It makes up for my small pee pee..... or that's what I've been told 14 bajillion times by people that hate guns.

See now the 357 sig I would like to try.

less penetration, more recoil than the .40SW? Either way, this isn't a discussion about our ammo choices. I'll keep my 40, Bob will keep his 45, you guys may get 357, at the end of the day, having a loaded gun chambered in something is better than being unarmed.

I highly doubt that....

I completely agree with that.
If you guys are talking handgun ammo, then I'll keep my 223 and 7.62x39.

I no longer have anything to shoot that with even though I have a few rounds of both floating around.
Stupid panic buyers.
I'll keep all mine, thanks.
Preferred handgun is: .45 Golden Sabre JHP.

A rare case, I'd imagine. As a counterpoint, my FNP40 carries 14+1, it's twin the FNP9 is 16+1, and while the FNP45 carries 15+1, it's a MUCH larger gun not built on the same frame. Not that I don't love my 1911, too. I solved this debate by having a 9mm, a .40S&W, and a .45!
Oh, my love will always be 1911's. In fact, I'd trade my Taurus right now for a lightweight commander for EDC. Since my weapons are merely a last resort, self defense item, having 14, 16, 18 rounds is not a high priority. I used to carry my Rossi 5-shot .38spl. You just have to rely on your SA that much more.
The Taurus 24/7 Pro uses the same frame amongst all the pistols IIRC. Has the same grip angle as the 1911 but is a little blockier so I point it more naturally than I do a Glock.
As a side bonus, I get to use the 12-rd fullsize mags in my compact critter.
Some history of 7.62 NATO match M118 and M852 ammunition.

Real time tracking of who has ammo in stock including pricing. I'm not liking what I see :(
Hornady has suspended production of 150 bullets and 150 ammunitions for the remainder of 2013.

Great......curse of having oddball calibers, now they will become rare and the prices go up....FML.
Im not surprised.
I wonder if CCI is still loading any rimfire or just making primers.
Ouch that hurts. Still have a bunch stocked up considering I have been shooting less this year.
Just bumping this for updates from outside my area. Locally, I'm seeing some ammo on the shelves at gun stores, although Wallyworld either isn't stocking or the retired shooters know when the truck arrives and are still waiting in line to clean them out. My favorite local gun store actually had 9mm for the first time in almost a year . . . at double the "pre-shortage" price. Owner says he can get pretty much anything except bulk .22, but the prices are still very high and he doesn't anticipate them going down.
Cliffs:
Yay, 9mm on the shelf
. . . at twice the price . . .
and its not going down.
The local walmarts are stocking just about everything around me now. The only thing NOT in stock is .38/.357. They had 50-rd boxes of .22LR for $1.29 last time I was in.
Went to the big gun show Saturday with a buddy. Ammo was still a little high, but not too bad. EBR's on the other hand were absolutely ridiculous.
Strangely, EBR's are almost back to pre-panic prices around here and the local stores have them available in pretty much every price range.
I can get an EBR at walmart for about $250 less than the cheapest one at the gun show. No lie.
Find a re-loader you trust and use their ammo for practice. Use the expensive E36 M3 for carrying.
