I like the idea of racing with people i know, because the racing will be more fun and a lot cleaner. Except the minute i heard everyone was getting together on Forza to race and i tired to join it seems like it has all fizzled out. I tired adding peoples gamertags that were listed and no one will add me back, and i have posted how i want to race i just need to know when the a race is going on. I have a couple of friends at want to join to i just need some one to let me know whats up or i guess we will just keep racing buy ourselfs in the mean time. My gamertag is SoulfulHam Bone, add me if you want to race on Forza, i get on a couple of times a week and i am open to be a friend of anyone as long as they arnt uncool to race with. Okay thanks yall, let me know.

The racing was good in the late room last week. This week is class c 1990s cars. IIRC tracks are catalunya, road atlanta, laguna seca - 5 laps. Usually followed by more racing. Gamertag list is a sticky in the off-topic forum.

Thursday evenings have generally turned out to be bad for me. Tuesdays would be better. I don't think I've not accepted any friend requests either...

I'll have to put together a 90s car and try to make the late room this week - the wife is usually asleep on the couch by then

The group had been showing signs of dieing out, but the new series seems to be carrying a lot of interest with it.

I think the key to keeping the group vital is to keep a particular series short. With a set of rules that encourages the building of interesting cars.

I'll be in the late room this week. If we need to change the night, I'm flexible.

I disagree. I suck at building cars, and building a car always requires time consuming testing. I think the set of rules should encourage the ability to hop on and have fun without being 10 seconds off the pace, which is why Spec classes work so well.

I like the variety of trying different cars, so spec series tend to bore me quickly. I liked the format from last week, but I understand where you're coming from.

I've had a lot of fun with other groups in the past with a showroom stock formula. Everybody uses the same completely stock car, and the loser of the race (or lowest place finisher with a headset) picks the car and the track. This gives some variety and tends to allow slower drivers to pick cars and tracks they're more familiar with, leading to closer (though maybe not "better") races.

Also, if there's real interest I'll volunteer (warning buzzers in my head be damned) to keep track of series results for the group. We'll need a consensus on the real-life scheduling, but I can put together a list of tracks and keep tabs on points. I love the idea of an official league, but will need help if we're over 8 regulars per week.

Thoughts?

I mean, is it possible to do both? We were doing a few races, so how about one fits a formula for customized cars. In the other race, cars are forced stock.

Totally possible. Last week, the group did 5 or 6 races, but only three were scheduled. We could have a few "points" races and follow up with some pickup games in the showroom stock format. Either or both could be scored.

In reply to Tom Heath and Platinum90:

I like the idea of doing a showroom stock series, I really enjoyed running the old stock 911's when we did that a few months back, I don't mind a spec series either.

Since I have car ADD I like having some form of change up every couple of weeks. So I like defining limits on the length of a series up front, I think it works to prevent a series from slowly fizzling out as the last one did.

Is Thursday the "Official" race night? And when you say "Early" and "Late" rooms, is that in general, or is there a certain time that folks show up for each?

I've got an RX-7 and an Evo built for this week's series... I tend to build "momentum" cars, so look out for me moseying on the straights ;-)

Also, I'll try to pick up a headset before Thursday so I can apologize properly when I inevitably smack into someone (I swear, I'll try to behave...)

For new people reading this thread, this is the series we are currently running (this week (10/28) is "Week 2"):

Week 2 1990 - 1999 cars PI 425
Week 3 2000 - 2009 cars PI 425

5 laps on each of the following tracks:
Laguna Seca
Road Atlanta
Catalunya

Yeah, I think Thursday is the "Official" night, but I'll race whenever I'm online. Just need to see about clearing my friends list. Why they limit it to 99...

FYI the "Early" room is 9 PM EST

The "Late" room is Midnight EST

It used to be referred to at the east coast and west coast rooms but since I was the only person on the west coast participating we made it the early and late rooms.

And since I work 2nd shift, and usually work on Thu., I started racing in the "West" room, even though I live in the East. Can't recall who thought up changing the name of the rooms, but I support it!

Weird thing, I still run in the late room, except for the two weeks out of my work rotation (our days off rotate as well) when I'm off on Thu. Gotta admit, on a few occasions in the past, I've ended up racing in "both" rooms when I'm off work on Thu. I think that's why it's so tough to keep track of the points..if I finish fourth in a race in the early room, and then tune enough in between to win the same race in the late one (which has actually happened to me!), which one counts? Maybe we need to keep separate points lists for each room, but not require anybody to choose one room or the other. Would anyone here actually be petty enough to get angry that they'd lost a "virtual" championship because their results weren't in the "right" room? Man, I hope not..I just like running with other real racers instead of the trash on the FM3 public hoppers.

Ah, don't sweat it. I'd rather get hit by one of y'all by accident (like what happened at Road America last week when my tires died, and somebody popped me because I braked waaaaaaay too early for Eight-still owe that driver an apology, just can't remember who I did it to) then get pounded on purpose by some "Halo player" in the public lobbies!

Hey, even if you finish last (and I've done some of that in The League..), you're still a better person than someone who quit, or someone who cheated. What was that bit in the "Racing in the Rain" book? Where Denny wondered why the guy from Ferrari still cared? Something like, "there's no dishonor in losing..as long as you don't give up..".

I swear that I won't curse ya if you hit me. Hell, half of the time people hit me, it's my own damn fault (braking too early, or "divebombing" a turn to try to pass somebody, or early apexing and losing my momentum) in the first berkeleying place. And I think (hope) everyone else running with us feels the same..otherwise we're just replicating the Public Lobbies we're all trying to escape in the first damn place.

Just my .02, dude..

I try to race clean, but sometimes there's the red mist or lose a braking point following someone into a turn. I've hit folks and been hit, but with this group I know they're not just using me as a brake substitute. It's just racing. I've also put myself in the kitty litter dodging a hit. It's all good with you guys and much better than fixing a real car.

I find myself getting brain fade much earlier, which usually causes me to rear end someone in a braking zone. Running with car folks certainly helps; incidents are usually genuine mistakes and no problem.

Having CPU cars in the mix last week made it kinda interesting. They drive like crap, but would squirt to(ward) the front at the start thanks to the beauty of AWD.
