then chumpcar is a better fit for you than lemons. silliness is more subdued.

Disclaimer: this is by reputation. I've only attended one chumpcar event, no lemons events, and have not driven in either

We (Three Pedal Mafia...headed by GRM member Sonic) were at the race this weekend. Our team does similar stuff. We built "The Boat" last year, and we've actually got it where it's darn competitive in C class, and competes for a class win. We also have our Civic wagovan, which is one of the best handling cars on track, just drastically underpowered. But we also built a car just for the wild fun, with no expectation of turning fast laps. We had the '69 Rolls Royce that debuted this past weekend.

Speedy did a damn good job with the Camaro/Festiva and deserves a ton of credit. We had been hoping to have a slow car battle with him and compete for IOE award, but brake issues kept us off track most of Saturday. If you drive smart, you're not a complete rolling chicane. I took a shift in the Rolls on Sunday. Yes, I was 1/2 speed of everyone else, but I also stayed to the far left at all times. We did that all weekend, so there was no question where we were going to be. Sadly, some shiny happy driver couldn't figure it out and smashed into the Rolls 1/2 hour before checkered flag on Sunday.

I have to say that Speedy's car caught me off gaurd at least once on the track. I was coming out of a turn cresting a small hill, so it's kind of blind. The first thing I saw was 4 tires...when you really should be seeing a roof. I had a brief moment of panic, thinking someone had rolled over.

Jeez, some of you guys don't get it.

Road Racing was FUN at some point and then the lawyers and "Win at all costs" jackasses got involved and it all went to E36 M3. Unless you go pro, you're not racing for anything more than trophies and dash plaques.

LeMons and Chump are all about having fun, driving cheap cars and getting lots of track time. If you do well then you might get some of your weekend's costs covered, if not then you at least got to race on a real race track against other drivers. If that isn't your idea of fun, then stay in the paddock.

The win at all costs guys still show up. Some learn to not take it so seriously and have fun and others get penalized or sneak through and blow up, eventually they stop showing up.

These are different than the folks who are well organized and execute well since they usually have more time to have fun since things are organized, the car is prepared and everyone knows what they're doing.

He's also adding to the good time people have by making such a head-scratcher. and you want to call him out on budget? why? He built it, let him run--- obviously he won't be competitive, and even if he was.....who cares. If you are entering LeMons races dead-set on winning.......you are doing it wrong. IMHO it's about the track time / camaraderie, and uh.......FUN! Folks that take these races too seriously threaten to ruin the whole concept. you can race--- not win, but still have fun right?! I'm not saying you shouldn't try to do the best you can, but winning is secondary at best. Unless you have a serious shortage of nickels around your place.

This. Hear, hear!

I'm tired of racing being so damn serious, time to have some fun. (Spoken as a 5 time LeMons driver/crew chief who got called out when Captain A reared his ugly head once.) If someone just has to be a hard ass Johnny Gearbanger super race car driver it's best they go somewhere else.

The Festiva was $200, the Camaro $800. I should recoup ALL of the Camaro money from the sale of parts (got $100 for the steering column, $100 for the scrap chassis, $300 for the 3.8L, and should be able to get 300-400 or the freshly rebuilt auto). Remember, you can spend all you like for theme stuff---that only slows you down, and the Camaro is most assuredly theme. I do compete in some races for the overall win, and have posted the fastest lap of the entire race in the past. I've also beaten Tony Stewart at VIR, and can run lap for lap within a few tenths of Randy Pobst, who sometimes races with me.

You can have a blast no matter what you drive in a LeMons race, but it honestly takes more skill to drive a terrible car at 10/10th's than it does a proper race car, and it's more fun to boot.

BTW, over 700k YT hits in a week on our two videos of this thing. It's been making world news, and is in the newest issue of Sports Illustrated (hits the newstands on the 19th, subscribers already have it), with nearly a full page article (pg. 22). The SI writer (Rich O'Brien) had so much fun racing it, he wants to do CMP with us next month. You can follow my shenanigans on my website, www.speedycop.com, and remember to "like" Speedycop on FB.

Thanks for giving us the budget details. I don't normally read Sports Illustrated, but I will probably buy a copy of that issue.

The way I understand it is that if your car is interesting, weird or ill advised, you get pretty much waved through the BS inspection- especially if it is slow.
