The side pipes thread got me thinking.....

I'm fixing up a 91 dodge diesel and am thinking a single stack is very easy to build, just need 3 90* bends, will direct smoke and noise up, away from others.

On the other hand don't want to fall into the category of diesel rice.

Other concern is noise in the cab, but the 12v makes so much engine noise I don't think the exhaust noise will seem that bad.

Taking inspiration from this truck, but I'd go with 6" not 8"

The wife and I have the same reaction to any diesel pickup with stacks through the bed:

Please do. I'd much rather have you run stacks than have to smell the diesel smoke in traffic. Just don't go with the 6" chrome. Do a 4" in black.

Rain gets in there. And yes, it's totally rich redneck kid rice!

Forget rain. With stacks that big, possums can crawl in.

I'm not sure that stacks are a good idea - at the end of the day they always look to me like they'd make the truck less practical.

Not sure what to think about stacks, but I love the older Rams.

I'm putting a 5" turndown before the rear tire, unless I buy the tailpipe, on my F250 because stacks suck. I want to be able to use most of the truck bed to truck bed things when I want to.

Don't do the stack/s they are so played out and lame. Do yourself a favor and not look like a douchebag by leaving the stacks to the idiots.

For dumb wannabe redneck rich kids around here, it's the ricer equivalent to a giant wing on a FWD car. Pretty please, for the sake of our culture, don't do it.

A relative of my river rat neighbors has 6" stacks on their gas pickup. That's a new one on me.

Just a heads up, stacks don't put smoke up and away from people. E36 M3's heavier than air, so it just floats down around peoples breath holes until it gets to the ground.

No to stacks, and maybe you could try tuning the truck to smoke as little as possible? Pretty please?

I'm getting tired of the giant lifted smoke spewing E36 M3piles that live around here. There's no reason a truck with gobs of torque needs to be given the foot just enough to spurt E36 M3 into my vehicle off every stop except douchbaggery.

The only tolerable excuse for having a stack or stacks on your diesel pickup is if you tow a horse trailer.

Period.

It gets a pass. It's awesome, fast, the stacks actually work with the look of the truck, it doesn't smoke, it sounds better, and I want one.

If you must do stacks, paint them flat black, and for the love of god, put a flapper on it

Otherwise, you'll look as toolish as a dude with slick hair and $4000 sunglasses driving a BMW 650Ci with huge aftermarket chrome wheels.

In reply to Grizz:

Yep about the only excuse for stacks on a truck is that one right there. I have seen several rigs around town here with stacks and they all seem to be driven by the kids with redneck ricer mentality.

Ok, I have to agree about stacks. I do have one question. Why is it most super fast trucks have them? I suspect the only way to pass a 6" or 8" exhaust is through the bed, rather than over an axle. Or is it because they wanna be a big rig?

Maybe it's the shortest exit path? I don't mind them on a pulling truck. On a street truck, I don't get it... But then again, when I'm driving my truck, it's usually hauling something...

I read this thread then went down to the store to buy a new pack of T-shirts and saw 4 dodges with stacks sticking through the beds in differing ranges of sizes.

There is no way anyone can pull this off without looking like a colossal D-bag.

One of them was discolored from heat yet the guy still had his dog tied up right next to it while he was hooning around in the black smoke pouring way that everyone that has a truck like this seems to drive.
