Huh... kinda explains why the school buses I see in PA are relatively new... and many of the ones I see in NJ are kinda old... Let PA buy them new and take the depreciation hit...
The school bus idea has potential, I guess... although getting heavy machinery through that back door may be a PITA without a loading dock or forklift.
Buy one with a wheelchair lift. 
I'm sure someone in your area rents shipping containers. I am renting a 20 footer for $75 a month right now. I could have had a 40 footer for $100, but the 20 was really more than I needed (storing materials and belongings while I renovate a kitchen/bathroom). Similar space in a storage facility would have been around 3x the cost and far less convenient.
