RIP Gerry Rafferty. On a side note "Baker St." was still bringing in major royalties even after 30 years - neat.

Every time I hear Baker street, and Stuck in the middle with you, it brings back very specific memories of what I was doing in my life back then. Very few other songs do that.
Now, regarding the royalties on Baker street, does anybody know how that works? Who polices it, and how is payment processed?
I would be lying if I said I knew how it worked but I do think that ASCAP is the leader in running how this works.

I heard on the news this morning that the sax solo was originally supposed to be a guitar solo, but the guitarist didn't show up for the recording session. The sax player was given a check for $40 for his work, but the check bounced - he never did get paid for it.
They also said the residuals for that one song earned Rafferty $120,000/year.

That's funny, I was going to express the exact same thing. I didn't even really like the song when it came out (that came later), but when I hear it, it brings me right back to the Summer when it came out. More so than any other song, I think.

Me too, although I always liked the song.
