Tail of the Dragon

Does anyone live near the Dragon? I'll be southbound through there around 4pm on Saturday. Is there snow? I hope so, extra challenging and good for pictures.

i live about 2 hours away, from what i just read, we are expecting flurries so i would imagine there might be some snow up there...

Snowfall from 1"-3" is forecast for NE Georgia over the weekend. The Dragon is further north and at a higher elevation. If the weather front makes it that far, you'll probably get your wish.

A quick check at Weather.com indicates 1"-3" inches forecast for Cherokee, NC (on Friday), with snow showers on both Saturday and Sunday.

Holidayz w/ the kinfolk Whats some good auto - related stuf to do in this town? After a couple days, the guys will need a break from whiny kids and gossiping females...

Um... All i can think of is Andretti Speed Lab in Alpharetta - indoor karting track, thats about it for Atl...

I have never seen or driven on real snow but I doubt that would be an issue.

Not the issue. The 5-0 keeps an eye on that place like if they look hard enough they're going to win something.

Yeah, watch out for unmarked black Dodge Chargers... but then again if you want to drive the Dragon with snow on the road then you might want them to be right behind you so they know where to send the tow trucks and ambulances.

ooooh yeah good idea, Ft Wayne has a good track, any other ideas...locations

the weather guessers are calling for 5 - 8" here in Asheville Fri night/ Sat... we're just a little east of the dragon and usually don't get nearly as much snow as the NC/Tenn border areas....

well, I kinda meant something at Andretti...mainly because its about half an hour from me. and about 5 other guys do too.

Did you check out the official site?

I'll drive that road sometime. I don't trust the Vette or the E30 right now.

Good tip on the Chargers. I was there in '07 with my Vette, LEO's were everywhere! All in tan P71's though. (it was summertime). I don't plan to set any records on the road, I'll be in the Saturn this time.

I was talking about cops like others said, but that statement really scares me. If you've not driven on "real" snow you need to slow down a LOT more than you think. Especially on the gap where an off can be real bad. Driving in heavy snow can mean basically zero grip in certain situations. Given the right conditions on the gap taking a turn at even 2mph in the snow could result in a long trip into the woods.

Be careful and have fun. The gap is a blast and there's lots of other cool roads and stuff around there too.

we totally should!! One tip, do not ask the attendent "which kart is the fastest?" because they will stick you in the slowest kart they could find, this coming from me - an ex-Andretti Employee...

Thing 1: I probably wouldn't hit the gap with snow on the ground. The "runoff area" in some spots is about 18" before you go off the side of a cliff that you probably won't return from with your ticker still working.

Thing 2: Worth repeating: DON'T CROSS THE CENTER LINE. 18 wheelers, motorcycle enthusiasts, car enthusiasts. It can be an ugly combination, and you don't want to be "that guy," especially when killboy is always watching (shiftyeyes.)

Killboy has pics of me, it proves I'm on the good side of the line. I do NOT expect to be flying around corners rally-style in the snow if there is any.
