Dumbest thing I have read so far is that Torque Monster headers will be available for purchase again after the first of the year. Now, mind you this is the "ONLY" (where is the rolleyes smiley????) header option for most V8 Ranger swaps after the 98 model year, double a-arm front suspension.
So without adieu, this is what almost 700 dollars gets you!!!

It won't effect the airflow or boost because the increased altitude won't effect the speed at which air evacuates the engine. Only the RPM can effect the speed of the turbo. Turbo speed, for the most part, affects the turbo's pressure ratio, not the airflow. Sounds a little backwards but that's the way turbos work. They aren't air movers so much as centrifugal air compressors. Turbo speed only really starts to increase with airflow once the turbo is outside of its efficiency range.
Air for the most part is always the same oxygen content, the problem is density. At 18,000 feet, the air has half the density at sea level. Ignoring a few percentage points here or there, the turbo will be spinning the same speed to make sea-level pressure at 18,000 as it would to make 14.7psi boost at sea level. Both are a 2:1 pressure ratio.
Now, the thing to think about is, how much extra power does it take to compress the air that additional amount to make up for the lower density, vs. how much better is it that the turbine exit sees a lower pressure due to the lower ambient pressure. And how much less power does it take to move through the thinner air vs. how well does the prop work...
I'm sensing many detailed 3-dimensional charts where people more geeky than I have worked everything out.

Where's the dumb part? Most decent headers are in the $700 range and they usually are a lot less complicated than those, and have a wider audience (can spread setup costs out more) than people putting old V8s in new IFS trucks.
I'd post a pick of a set of $2000 headers for a rotary but they're not appropriate for this thread, because they aren't stupid, just badass.

Back when I had my Cobra, I was researching twin turbo kits. I wanted to find the hotside pre-fabbed so I would just have to worry about the coldside. I was looking at headers to use and I found some from Sean Hyland Motorsports. Anybody care to guess how much these beauties are?
Whatever your guess was, double it. Those headers are $4400!!! They must be hand formed by leprechauns using the purest unicorn E36 M3 for that price...

Yep, you get what you pay for. A cobbled OEM manifold probably isn't going to flow as well, and I won't comment on the weld-el log other than wondering if a regular manifold from a 70s car would clear everything in the way for even less effort.
There are a lot of people who have the means and just want to trade a credit card number for a bolt-in solution shipped to their door in a timely manner.
Better yet, some of them drop their projects off at shops and want to pick up running, driving, finished products. Those are my favorite. It means I get to get paid to put projects together, instead of the other way around.

You answered your own question by saying it was that shyster and "junk" dealer Hyland... Being Canuk he used/abused the dollar exchange rate to line his pockets even deeper. Everything he sold was in 'nuk bucks, but never changed the exchange rate for US dollar. This was the time when it was $1US to 1.4-ish 'nuk buck. So selling to US customers was a boon for him.
The dumbest thing I read on the interwebs, sadly, is that leaders doubt they will be able to pass a budget to save us from the so called fiscal cliff.

Here's a good one. Setup is that someone has a new cam that was ground improperly - a few of the lobes sit further out than the bearing journals so it won't go into the engine.

I actually floated a trial balloon, but noone bit on it with any realistic intentions. The replies I got back were on the order of "Sure, for $250!" or "I can't see paying more then $350." That barely buys the steel before cutting a tube and laying a bead on it.
I also don't have the facilities to do it either anymore or I already would have make a prototype or 10.

You'll be terrified to know the only option on cams for my cars were made by a Russian with a bench grinder.....now we have machined ones.....lol
