+1, then +1 more. I don't get soccer. Sure, it was fun to play when I was a little kid, and my kids play it now. But to watch it as a professional sport is painful. I feel the same way about golf. Then again, I've never stepped foot on a golf course.

I personally am thrilled to have the NFL back in season. I grew up a 49ers fan (I'll admit, I jumped on their bandwagon back in '79/'80 as a kid and never jumped off), so I'm happy to see them relevant again. As a life long Philly resident, I have full expectations of an Eagles team not living up to the hype.

And looks like no hockey this year...

I have done all of that.

Compared to rugby union, US football is boring as hell. I don't want to stop playing when somebody tackles me, I want to get up and keep running or curl into a ball and hope for the best as the ruck goes over me.

If you've never tackled somebody out of their shoes on a pop kick you sent down the pitch, you haven't lived.

(edit to add) Football would be a lot more fun to watch if they finished an entire game in 1 hour and 45 minutes and shut the color commentators up.

That and American football is boring to play and watch.
Never played tackle football huh? It's a shame.....everyone should walk with a limp To each his own, but I never got the appeal of Soccer. To say American football is boring to watch, while trying to defend Soccer is just silly. Soccer on TV is like watching glue dry......and not that exciting Super Glue either! Run down the field as part of a kickoff team, and try to tell me American Football is boring, or not fun to play. Sorry, some of us like to hit people and not get arrested for it.

I played football and I quit cause I didn't enjoy it. There is no creativity in football unless you are the quarterback. You just run what ever play the coach tells you to. I love watching soccer on TV. I will wake up a 6AM on Saturday to watch English Premier League football on firstrowsports through all the damn popups. As far as soccer players being tough, I have played on broken toes,I played two games on a fractured shin bone, had concussions, taken punches and elbows to the face so I call bullE36 M3.

Agreed! With the instant replay and constant babbling watching NFL can get tiresome. Especially if you have a baffoon like Dan Dierdorf announcing.

Rugby is a lot of fun, but I still prefer padded football. Even as hard as they hit in Rugby or Aus. rules Football, they just can't unload on each other with the same ferocity as you can wearing pads. If they did, they would kill each other, or have broken shoulders with each hit.--- not to mention head injuries.

The athleticism of the players is pretty amazing too. Think all NFL players are fat and out of shape? Go to a game live. Those huge men are incredibly fast, and agile....something that just doesn't come through on TV.

like I said....to each his own. Heck, some folks like watching bowling.

I got the feeling there was something odd about you

There is an Irish pub not far from me that has soccer on at least three t.v.'s all the time. That is the only time I'll ever watch soccer. Something about the Guinniess makes it OK.

I was to sickly as a child to play much sports. Played soccer for half a season same for basketball. Never played football or baseball.

My wife has stated she doesn't want our son to play football and is trying to lean him towards soccer, I'm fine with him playing soccer but I think he should have the opprotunity to at least see if he likes football. He is going to be big for his age. Hell he might even like basketball?

So long as they keep score, and a real winner and loser is designated at the end of each game, I dont care if my kids take up curling. As long as they try hard and learn the values of hard work and sportsmanship, then Im all for it.

I actually think that the equipment makes the injuries worse in that there are less injuries overall, but the ones that there are are a magnitude more severe.

No data or anything to back this up, just an opinion.
