I watched an episode of the original series recently (I think on the MeTV channel); I loved that show as a kid, but looking at it today the production values were about equal to a high school play.

There was also a series of paperback books, basically short novelizations of the TV scripts. I had maybe 30 or 40 of those as a kid, and used to reread them constantly.
