Please pardon my ignorance, but I find a clarification of terminology would be helpful. What exactly do you mean by "write off?"

What is a write-off? It’s a term commonly used when the insurance industry determines your vehicle to be a total loss. In other words, the cost to repair your vehicle after a collision is more than its value after subtracting the recycle or salvage value.

No. Car is too new and by some miracle it looks like both headlights are still intact.
impossible to guarantee anything without taking the car apart and doing a really detailed survey, or knowing what percentage of replacement value your individual policy will order a write off at, but probably not a write off.
No way. I just had a GMC van fixed that looked like it had run into the side of a cliff at 20 MPH. A bit of frame straightening, a bunch of cosmetics, a radiator an such added up to about 12K. And that's Northern California rates.
The adjuster looked at the car but did not open the hood. My son said he was talking big numbers, and wondered if it would be written off. I imagine parts for German cars are not inexpensive, but the damage looks minor to me, and the headlights are OK.

I would say, no. Not a write-off.
But I'm old enough to remember the time a friend with an almost new 1988 Ford Ranger got hit broadside by a drunk who ran a stoplight. The truck was hit on the rear tire and took extensive damage to that side of the bed. The impact flipped him on the roof, where it spun to a stop in a busy intersection. I vividly remember the tow truck operator trying to right the vehicle several times by attaching a chain to the suspension. He could get it rocking pretty good, but the truck would spin on its roof before it could be pulled enough to set it on its wheels. He finally succeeded, but only after both the front and back glass was broken and the roof of the cab was half caved in. We were pretty sure it would be totaled.

But vehicles were quite different back then.
My buddy had a slow speed head on collision in his truck last winter. Everybody was OK. Newer GM pickup, there was a lot of damage including the front frame section. It was surely a write off, and he was glad, he didn't want a newer vehicle with a big repair on it's record. They fixed it, including a complete frame replacement. It was a $50,000 repair
the catch-22 of parts and vehicles becoming much more expensive is: yeah the parts to fix a car after an accident cost a lot more, now that $5k repair is closer to $30k, but replacing the vehicle with a new equivalent costs $80k. So, still not totalled
Well, I would have agreed with all of you and we would all be wrong.
It's a total loss, they're offering him $25k with a $15k buy back. I suspect that someone is either not good at what they do, or there's some shenanigans going on. If it were me I'd probably buy it back and fix it, or at least investigate that option.
He wants me to go look at an ATS with him tonight.
I was really hoping one of the insurance guys was going to comment on this, either before we got the verdict, or to supply some sort of rationale after.
We just had a discussion and we both think there's something wrong here, and he's going to initiate th dispute process. He likes the car and he's not really interested in buying something else
Rallyx car, keep the plastic inner fender liners or ditch them? It has a full metal inner fender so it's not blocking dirt from the engine bay, just the fenderwell nooks and crannies.

Yeah, this is extreme but my first thought is to never need any body work on a special edition model that originally was 200-300 extra hours on the paint job.

We're still no further ahead.
They told him the offer is final, but he still has nothing on paper and nobody's calling him back.
He's not very experienced with this kind of thing and doesn't really know what to do. I wouldn't be surprised if most people are like him, and out of frustration just accept the first offer. I know he's a little overwhelmed, and I'd like to do something but it's his battle to deal with.

Tomato paste is the only "intensified" tomato product that comes to mind, but of course, there's no texture. Are you using the sun dried tomatoes packed in oil? I've not found them to be very chewy after cooking a bit.
if I pounded rebar straight into the ground in the dip, and tied off everything with mesh, and formed a slope, could I get away with a concrete patch here? Or any of the spots around the paving?
I've honestly considered just putting dry bags down, but like gravel, I could see that getting washed away in the first storm.
