Robot kills factory worker
Skynet said:
(CNN)An automotive assembly line robot mortally injured a worker at a car factory in Germany this week, a prosecutor's office said.
The man, 21, was installing the robot at a Volkswagen assembly line on Tuesday in Baunatal, which lies next to the city of Kassel, local newspaper the Hessische Niedersaechsische Allgemeine reported, citing a VW spokesman. The robot gripped him and pressed up him against a metal plate, crushing his chest.
Despite efforts to revive him, the worker, an employee of a third-party vendor, later died in hospital, the paper reported.
As a matter of procedure necessary to have the body released in cases of non-natural death, the state prosecutors' office said it is investigating to rule out any criminal culpability.
CNN placed calls to multiple press spokespeople at Volkswagen, but was unable to reach one.
Skynet?
Or is siri finally losing it?
I hope he had OldGlory's Robot Insurance

When we've got robot servants cooking us dinner, doing our laundry, and generally making our lives far more enjoyable, imagine what hackers will be able to do. I imagine the number of case of "accidental" robot induced deaths will dramatically increase.

Not that rare of an occurrence. Robots are quite dangerous to work with as the full range of safety systems is often less when they are being repaired.
I used to build robotic systems in my last job, and the first time you brought a machine on-line was always a tense moment. We had a rule that no machines were to be activated if you were alone in the shop.
And then there's this, just in case you had any doubts.
Why wasn't it locked out? Shouldn't be working on equipment that isn't zero-energy.
I TOLD YOU BASTARDS SKYNET IS REAL!
DID YOU LISTEN?

Yup. Startup of any machine can be dangerous, if it does something that's not expected when you flip the switch for the first time.
I had a roommate years ago who was a field engineer for a company that built automotive test beds, those hydraulic shaker things the manufacturers use to test cars in the lab. There was a story about one of their test beds tearing a car in half after something failed in the controls.
This is the source material for my 3rd tattoo. When asked why I got this particular image placed on my body for the rest of my life I generally respond with "When the robot uprising inevitably happens, I hope to be recognized as a peer. Plus, robots are bad berkeleying ass.", or something to that effect. Also, my shopmate is a dead ringer for Edward Furlong, so I'm hoping that helps, too.
hell, I tend to hold my breath when I power up somebody's dimmer rack.. I could not imagine powering up something robotic
People denying the existence of robots may be robots themselves
They may not even know they are robots. It's best to tear their abdomen open to check.

So... maybe building another car is looking less appealing. Maybe I should build a Mech!
I have a feeling the robot was simply doing it's assigned task when a bag of meat wandered into it's operating area.
