Had a seizure two weeks ago and now I have to wait six months to drive. Technically I still have the license, but the doctor doesn't want me to drive.
Kinda pisses me off, because I've had no seizures while awake in about five years, and the doctor could throw out the six month "suspension," but if I an to harm sometime while driving and seizing, he is liable. So basically I'm pissed because my neurologist is not dumb.
The other thing that pisses me off is when I see some moron driving like a... moron. (+1 for descriptiveness.) My thought is, I'm safer than that when I'm having a seizure. And for the record, it IS possible to drive safely while having a seizure. Done it hundreds of times. unknowingly.
It's gonna be a rough six months.
The same thing happened to my sister in law. That kind of thing can really screw up the best laid plans.
I have a friend that had a seizure while driving and ended up in the woods and the car burnt to a crisp. I had a brain tumor when I was 12 and I had pretty bad seizures and headaches before we knew I had a tumor. This was 5 years ago, worst summer of my life. Are you just epileptic or is there another problem?
That is rough. You can come drive my trucks on my two tracks, no license necessary on private land.
No license needed for my gokart either man, if you're ever in the area. Sorry to hear it!
Thanks a lot guys.
Turbo. I'm lucky. Just epileptic. Left frontal lobe.
Pilot. If I travel to Flint, I'll keep that in mind. My family has private land in mass quantities in Missouri and Illinois. I plan on such activities.
Javelin. Read above and add 11 horse Briggs custom drift cart. I'll probably take the Nissan to the track too.

My land is near Mio MI. If you get up that way I have 4+ miles of trails and dirt bikes as well as trucks
A friend of mine had a brain tumor that did that to him...
He seems to take it in stride though. Now he blames forgetting, etc. on the brain tumor.

We all have our excuses.
Pilot, my trucks photo is in my garage section. I try not to run her too hard because she's my tow truck. Were working on some trails in Calhoun Illinois. 40ish acres.
Drive safely through a seizure? Uhh, I think I agree with your doctor, I'd rather not have you on the road. (no offense) Believe me, I'd rather not have all the other morons out there too, but until "stupid" is a medical diagnosis, we'll have to suffer through.
My friend's mother once suffered a bout of sneezing fits and lost her license for a few months. You cannot sneeze with your eyes open, so it's unsafe to drive. Weird but true.
It depends on the type and duration of the seizure, of course, but it's nothing to take chances on.
My wife had a seizure four years ago, a couple of minutes after driving home from work. I saw the seizure, and the aftermath. If it had happened while on the road - someone would have been hurt.
Cause? Something to do with a brain lesion. There are several odd things in that woman's head (besides her tolerance of me).
The state of Texas, after review, said she can drive. I said no. She hasn't driven since. It's inconvenient but the risk is too high.
Wifey said I can drive to the part time gig a few blocks away. The last seizure I've had was grand mal. The rest have always been Petit mal. I could do common motor functions sand apparently drive because I never crashed. Couldn't talk, but red means stop.. Apparently that meant enough.

It sucks and I feel your pain, but the doctor is doing more than covering himself; he has your best interests in mind, too.
Seizures can never be taken lightly regardless of your previous episodes. How could you ever know the magnitude until it occurs? By then, it may well be too late for you and/or someone else.
Some years ago, I was about twenty feet away when a newbie autocrosser experienced an event at an Atlanta autocross; it was a mess. The only saving grace was that the car was facing away from the paddock/grid area and was pointed toward the street. Only the curb and a small tree kept the car (engine bouncing off the rev limiter) from heading directly into traffic or the thirty-foot high retaining wall on the other side of the road.

I can personally attest to (and prove if necessary) that this is not true.
I think our eyes instinctively close while sneezing, but I have successfully kept them open during a sneeze.

Sperlo...we do "Back 40 racing" over here near Columbia MO too if you ever want to come out. We did it just last weekend and had a blast.

A good friend of mine and his wife (and almost me and my wife) were run over in a parking lot by someone having a seizure. Luckily they were ok and actually ended up making out pretty well in a lawsuit afterwards. For the safety of yourself and everyone around you it's probaby best that you take your doc's advice until you know you're ok.

My tumor was on my left frontal lobe. My first seizure was the scariest of all. I was laying in bed and my mom came in to check on me, she would talk but I couldn't talk back. She asked me names, I couldn't get anything out. My mom was crying and no one knew what was going on. They called 911, and the last thing I remember was blacking out in the ambulance, and waking up the next morning in a hospital bed, and I wet the bed (I was 12) I spent 2 months in the hospital that summer. Haven't had a seizure since '06

I'm glad my experience has been much better. I remember being woken up by a cop telling me what happened. Wifey was crying and said she was about to smack me for humping her in my sleep (seriously, thats how she described it. ) before I went into convulsions. I can imagine it was more pleasant than when I slapped her in my sleep. She is used to my "active night life."
Apparently my Bombey cat tried protecting me.
Wow, I've never had a violent seizure. My friend and I were playing basketball in gym once and he went up for a lay up and fell into a violent seizure. That was scary too.
when my mom had cancer she had a seizure at some point and lost her driving... that was the BIGGEST issue for her as she lost her independence...

oooh that sucks. I had to go a month without driving when I first bought my e28 due to a concussion, can't imagine six months!

I've done it once. The reward is a hell of a treat. Especially for one of the GRM breed.

I agree. Someone in my town spent years in jail after some children died in what was called road rage related manslaughter, and was eventually released with no charges after it was determined to have been a medical problem.
I'd like to think the doctor was looking out for you.
A few years ago, I was taking an on-ramp to get onto one of our major roads and I notice a lady in a car sitting in the grassy area "in side the curve". I pull over to see if I could help, and I can see the lady behind the wheel either coming out of a seizure or about to have one( vacant stare, shaky hands, etc). Her car was running and in park and she was having trouble operating the gear lever to put it into drive. Somehow, I got her to turn the car off and remove the keys from the ignition. I didn't have a cell phone at the time, so I drove up the street to get someone to call 911.
She could have hurt alot of people or herself if she had gone into traffic. Not saying that this would happen to you, but you never know. I have a cousin that at one point hadn't had a seizure in years. Then started having them every few months.
Take care of yourself and do what the doctor says. It's only for awhile. We wanna keep you around.

He seems to be a smart guy. Thanks for wanting to keep me around though. Really, December will be great.
