A male friend and I went to Concours d'Lemons and Vintage Car racing at Laguna Seca this weekend. He's a mechanic by trade (dragsters originally, now bikes), and I had asked how much it would cost to hire him to show me how to rebuild the GTX engine & turbo. As a friend, he's refusing to take money.
At some point in our hour cruise down to Monterey, we were comparing horror stories of dating people who don't get cars. He complains about a couple of ex-girlfriends who only dated him to fix their cars.
At Laguna Seca, we're listening to a nicely tuned Datsun Bluebird. After asking if my car can ever sound that good, I turn to him and say, "I'm okay with never dating you, I'd rather have the rebuilt engine, honestly." :D
And my friends wonder why I'm single...
I'll just leave this right here ;)

Awww, c'mon guys at least give the young lady credit for not stringing him along.
Having met the young Ms Raves at the challenge I'd happily just hang out and wrench with her, she's good folks.
Being single and saying the wrong thing at the wrong time occasionally is way better than
Yes Dear.
Yes Dear.
Yes Dear.
Yes Dear.
Yes Dear.
Forever.....
Totally not my fault here, guys. He's Japanese, but not into Asian or half-filipino chicks. If anything, I'M the one always strictly in the friend zone! I have a bad case of "kid sister vibe," apparently.

Thanks, now I have another reason to live in a trailer park.

You say that like it's a bad thing...........
On the flip side, I once lusted for a female college friend but I was "that" guy. Years later we reconnected and I all I wanted was to be a friend; she apparently harbored other ideas. We don't talk anymore..........
C'est la vie.
This thread is more proof that when it comes to inter personal relationship:
"....you can't handle the truth."

Yeah, its weird after chasing it for so long, being chased, and finally understanding why I failed a dozen years ago...its weird, and borderline creepy.
Not me, I'm pretty violent.

I dunno. I have close male friends who aren't interested in me. And only a couple of them are gay.

There are times I swear my g/f only wants me around to work on her cars and house...

Most women would say that.

I worked with a Filipino guy that was like that. Every Filipina he saw reminded him of his Mom, creeped him out. So he went for blonde hair/blue eyes.
Me? I'm the opposite as the Fiance is a Filipina and she's beautiful :)

same here, sorta.
LOL. Fortunately, we have no kids and are both dead-set on doing our own laundry. Cats generally do a good job of washing themselves...

And give up my stylin' life in the upscale ghetto of Alviso, CA? Not a chance! (It's upscale because the cars here are usually actually on jackstands or lifts, not just blocks...oh, and they have to move once a month for street cleaning!)
Well, not until I get this rotary engine in the Miata, at least...and get the GTXes sorted out...and get a comparable job back home. :P
Seriously, though. It is completely possible (and in my case, probable) to have guy friends who think you're awesome and gorgeous and still be completely not their type, and vice versa.
I recently had the talk with my 14-year old step-daughter that all of her "guy friends" are either lusting her, or homosexual. She, of course, didn't believe me at first. Then one day she caught one of these "guy friends" staring bug-eyed at her cleavage... to which she responded "Pretty, aren't they?"!!!
I'm so proud! :D
It is completely possible to be just friends with a girl and not be interested in dating them. Probably my closest friend is a girl and no I am not gay, I have been dating a different girl for getting close to six years.
