Devils advocate for a moment, the thing that almost always irritates me about protesters is that they don't seem to have jobs. There have been things over the years that I could possibly have protested over but I was busy WORKING.
Your choice to work does not mean that others have to make the choice you do. It's a choice.
Damn, I wish working was a berkeleying choice. I'd be kicked back on a beach in Tahiti with a berkeleying Mai Tai in my hand if it was a "choice" to go to work.
No, having to work isn't a "choice" for those of us who have to pay our own way in life. Which is my point about protestors, if they are receiving something for nothing and protesting about the thing which they are given by those of us who give it to them???? Then no.
Seems like the demands put up are a bit bullying as well, protests should ask for a course of action not someone's head on a plate.

what should be asked for if you've asked for a course of action multiple times in the past and have been brushed aside/ignored ? is it then time to ask for someone else with whom to deal ? i.e. ask for their head

working IS a choice … regardless of whether you were raised to understand that you won't be a parasite on society … there are way too many folk living off the largess of the government for anyone to claim that working ISN'T a choice …
though I agree with you to the degree that working wasn't a choice for me (or most if not all on here) … it's how we were raised, it's what we believe … but still it's a choice we make
I was raised with the thought that everything we do in life is a choice, good or not so good … sometimes it's a negative choice, as in, we choice A, because the consequences of choosing B or C or D … etc are so opprobrious that we don't want any of them, even if A isn't exactly how we want things to be .. it's still a choice
as good of an example as I can think of … I chose to go into the military (and then to VN) … not because I WANTED to, but because the other choices were not up to my liking …. still it was a choice ..
same as working … the consequences of not were worse than what I had to put up with by working

Every thing I've seen shows this as a sudden thing; while I'm sure it isn't is the president of the university the fall guy or is he a guilty party. Does his day planner show that he didn't meet with a group of mishandled students. Do his policies lead the college into the 1940s socially? The guy at the top is ultimately responsible as always buy I only see two peoples official resignations and I doubt either of them directly effected what was going on.
Also, how long have these protests been going on? First I heard of them (I stay away from the news most of the time) was when the president was stepping down. Have they been going unaddressed? Being swept under the rug? Or is it just getting bigger as we go.
As I said I don't pay attention to the news very much so don't crucify me, just wondering.
Reports indicate the protests haven't being going on long (don't really think that matters), but it comes from "pranks" dipped in racism, racial slurs, swastika poop, lack of acknowledgment of racial issues, slow reaction by the university officials . . .

i haven't been following either … but a few of the things I've read since it all went down is that the president of the school had been apprised of this way back … multiple times … and didn't respond in a way that seemed to help … shrug so is it a case of "the buck stops here" ? the prez. resigns/gets fired, and the chancellor agrees to take a lesser role (in what I haven't heard yet)
