12 years Army so of course I'm filled with arthritis and dislocations and all sorts of issues. I was medically retired and have a disability rating of 70%. In the 5 years since I've gotten out my issues have all gotten notably worse, so I'd like to try to get my disability rating increased, preferably to 100%. As someone once told me, I gave this country my best years and my best health, the least they can do is pay me for it. And for those unfamiliar with this, the difference between pay at 70% and 100% is quite substantial.
I've kinda avoided doctors since I got out, since I'm used to army doctors not really doing their jobs. But I've been a few times, and I have some MRIs and X-rays showing issues with my spine. I also finally made an appointment at the local VA clinic and I'll be going there in about a week or so. My current plan is to print out and bring along the results from my MRI and X-rays to show the doctor the issues with my back. I also want to try to get more MRI/Xrays on my shoulder and knees and everywhere else that is hurt, so I can have lots of evidence that these injuries are getting worse.
After that, I was told I should contact a third-party liaison to the VA, and they'll handle my case to increase my disability percentage.
Has anyone else gone through this process before? Can you offer any tips or advice?
