If your job leads you to the unfortunate situation of shooting people for a living... this is probably your best case scenario for "Today's target".

The only unfortunate thing in that story is that the SAS didn't get there sooner. 50-cal Head shots FTW
The only down side is that he only managed to put down 3 of those degenerates.....
I can only imagine what a head taking a .50 cal looks like.
Was it a 50 BMG or a 338 Lapua Mag? I bet it was the 338. They retain more energy way out there than the 50 does, have better ballistics and accuracy.

I'll buy that man a beer!
There's a team that will never have to buy a beer again.
Well done!

I wonder what the distance was. Now that I type that, I bet the info was in the story.
Article says nothing about range. Also claims it was a "silenced .50 cal". I hope it really happened but I have reservations about the news-piece.
I saw a different headline today that mentioned 1/2mile shot.
I also question the credibility of the article. I have no military experience, but I imagine that this 3 kills/3 bullets would have had to go down in just a few seconds. Can a single sniper work that quickly? It's not like putting 3 holes in 1 12" paper target at 100 yds. Henchmen #1 & #2 would likely have been running away moments after seeing Mr Beheader's head explode.
I hope it is true though, all IS fighters should be dealt similar deaths. Maybe there were multiple shooters in the team and the article was just poorly written.
In reply to HappyAndy:
I'm pretty sure if I was standing there with my buds, fixing to lop off some kid's head, and my bosses head exploded all over me, I wouldn't be able to comprehend what happened, much less start to run.
I bet you have 10 seconds before they even have the presence of mind to duck. Making the mental shift from hunter to hunted would be kind of tough.

All three could be taken down in 2-3 seconds. They would be toast before they even processed what was happening.

Positive Things: Bad guys get freaked out that at any moment bad thing will happen to them for being bad guys. Gives up being bad.
Negative Things: Bad guys get wise and start doing their execution in areas without clear sight lines. Continues badness.
I choose to believe it just because its such a heart-warming story.
Professional killers like the SAS can do some pretty amazing things. Carlos Hathcock (USMC) could work his Winchester model 70 as fast as his spotter could shoot his M14. The article I saw didn't mention caliber. It said 1K yards. At that range, a head shot with a 300 Win Mag is quite possible.
I think Hathcock had the highest number of confirmed kills for a US sniper before the post 9/11 era (Chris Kyle has the current high number). Hathcock also had a very high number of unconfirmed kills (potentially as many as his confirmed number which was 93), like many snipers. I read his biography and then had the opportunity to meet him in early 1991 at Camp LeJeune. He was a very down to earth and humble person, like most country boys...
Outstanding! A few more of those guys running around over there, maybe ISIS will finally get the memo.
That's cool, secretariata. His biography was amazing. And his rifle never shot better than 2 MOA, according to his boss.
