I found out that our shop is closing for the third week of March.  I will be getting vacation pay for it, but the problem is that I have no idea what to do with myself for a whole week like that.

I am already planning on driving up to Michigan to drop off some engine parts to be remanufactured, but that won't take up more than a day.

I can't decide if I want to go visit some various museums around the country, or borrow a lift at work and do some serious metal fab on the RX-7.  The sudden opportunity is stifling with how much choice I have.

In reply to MrChaos :

My number of cars to available money ratio is the inverse of ideal for that.

I already have two of those, anyway.

Slap together a 13b for me?

Put the quantum together?

In reply to EvanB :

The 13B can be done in like a half hour any time, no problem. The Quantum would need the money I just dumped on the Volvo.  It also should remain a low priority because the rallycross season starts soonish.

Come to WV for a vacation and help me fix my wife's Jeep?

More seriously, didn't you have a couple of non-running project vehicles? Maybe get those up and running and get paid for it at the same time?

Alternatively, road trip to nowhere in particular to get away from it all?

If you combine a museum with the Michigan trip then make it The Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, MI

Edit: Ha, written at the same time

I was thinking the exact same thing.

Nascar is at Homestead at the end of your week off.  Get some sun, listen to blaring V8s from the trucks and Xfinity cars, then drive home Sunday.  There's too many people at the cup races for me.

Take a detour drive though the driftless zone in the Wisco-Minne-Iowa border.

FYI, Green Bay gets another 8.1"of snow in March, lol.

Reverse fly and drive? Got any cars you want to unload? Find someone far away to buy it, drive it to them, do some sightseeing, fly home. cheeky

I can't DO that!  I can fark off for an hour or two at a time but beyond that I get agitated knowing that I should be doing something.

I will probably figure out a way to tow the RX-7 here (the black one is not equipped for towing yet) and do the floor reinforcement, because that is not something I want to do on jackstands.  Sitting the car on a drive on lift to unmangle the chassis rails and weld in some 2x2 is slightly less ideal, but I gotta do what I gotta do.

BTW - The chassis rails on an RX-7 are not jacking points.  The PO didn't quite realize that.

Day 1: nothing.  Sleep in, catch up on whatever book you've been reading. Play with kids/dog/whatever.  Make a nice dinner for the wife so she doesn't have to.

Rest of the time, work on all those little projects that just take an extra twelveteen minutes you normally dont have.

Come to Baltimore and play with BG chassis, drink rye whiskey and eat smoked meat. With the current trend regarding the spread of a certain pandemic, there's a significant change that my day job may be making significant changes for the foreseeable future. Flying a dozen employees around the lower 48 and Canada and have 30-40 people flying into HQ each week is looking less and less like something we want to continue doing. I may even have a spare protege chassis and b6 engine and f series gearbox for you to take home.

If you do decide to go to Chicago, may I suggest the Gilmore Car Museum?   90 acres of automotive history.  Midway between Detroit and Chicago.

Another idea, volunteer a day or two doing something that you enjoy, but to help someone else out.  Habitat for Humanity build, etc.

I'll feed you awesome food and excellent bourbon if you want to do this.  You can even drive the Zoomboni up and down the street a couple of times if you feel froggy.
