Any suggestions? We will be there for about 6 days. I've been to kitty hawk, but only for a few hours. What should we do, see, eat?

Not to scare you, but that's hurricane season (not that I think you don't know that). Keep updated on the weather and don't screw around if something comes, even tropical storms can be serious out there. Just be smart about it and keep up. Where on the Outer Banks are you going to be?
Grave Digger's shop http://www.gravedigger.com/?id=51
When we went a few years ago they were working on building a new truck, and let a few of us climb up into one. No one wants to admit it, but everyone loves Monster trucks.
Directions: The Store is located on Highway 158 about 40 miles from the Virginia Line. Highway 158 runs along the coast. The dungeon is 15-20 miles north of Kill Devil Hills. For more information you can call the Dungeon at 252-453-4121.
Where it is: Kill Devil Hills is on highway 158, South of Digger's Dungeon. It's a great vacation spot if you want to spend a week on the beach, do some ocean fishing.
Side-Trips: If you need some time out of the sun you can head over to Roanoke Island and visit the North Carolina Aquarium, the North Carolina Maritime Museum, Elizabeth Gardens, and Festival Park. If military history is your heart's desire, while you're there stop by the Fort Raleigh National Historic Site. And if you're into mechanical innovations, don't forget to check out the Wright Brother's National Memorial, just north of Kill Devil Hills (it's right on highway 158).
What To Bring: Beach Towels, Flip-Flops, Sand-Buckets & Rev-Treads for playing in the sand, sunscreen and a camera.
Just got back from Atlantic Beach. It's okay. A little more commercial than say Duck or Corolla, where I've stayed before. Plenty to do there. The fishing charter people are not real busy, so it's easy to find someone to take ya fishin' if that's your thing. We did, and caught our limit of Spanish Mackerel!
The most important thing is to not let your car get tagged with one of those douchebag oval OBX stickers.
buy some kites and rent a dune buggy or jeep ,best memories is a fresh tomato sandwich on the beach and riding in a jeep . http://www.ncbeaches.com/OuterBanks/Corolla/Activities/SightseeingTours/BeachJeepsOfCorolla/
We dont have any hurricanes in the forecast right now... The weather's great just hot with thunderstorms in the evenings, a lot like Florida. Make use of the ferrys and drive Hatteras and Ocrakoke, all sorts of stuff to stop and do along the way. Eating wise there is all sorts of fresh seafood anywhere you look it's hard to go wrong. Also if you are a history buff there are civil war related attractions all over the place, Fort Macon does reenactments every weekend...
I like Avon.. every couple of years friends and I rent a house there BEFORE the season starts. Good way to spend a week doing absolutly nothing

Thank you. I hate those things with the white hot fury of a thousand, well, lightbulbs, if not actual suns. Second only to West Coast Choppers paraphenalia owned by someone who's never actually touched a bike in his life.

I own an OBX sticker.. it's on a magnet stuck to my fridge
Great fishing and crabbing in that area. It can be done real cheap or you can go offshore for the big boys, either way it is fun and tasty.
As a former resident and annual visitor, I can say that it is required to get a Dolphin Boat from John's (battered and fried fish) with a chocolate-peanut butter milkshake. Do not skip this.
AVOID the Port O' Call restaurant at all costs. We tried it when we were down last week and it sucked hard. Anything else would be better. I enjoy Pigman's BBQ for casual and the Tale of the Whale for fancy, but most places are decent.
I stay up in Duck, and there are a lot of little shops and stores to hit. My 11-year old daughter took a surfing lesson from the surf shop in duck ($60 for 2 hours) and loved it! Great instructor, perfect for kids, and everyone was able to get up quickly. Sunsets at the Sunset Grille are popular.
The lighthouse in Corrolla is a neat little stop. You can tour the history center, climb up the lighthouse, and walk out on docks and do some crabbing.
Jockey's Ridge is fun to climb and check out the view. There are some shops there as well.
You didn't say whether you did the Wright Brothers museum and memorial. It's worth half a day.
They have a piece of the crankcase from the "Flyer's" engine. It was sand-cast. No carb. Gas dribbled by gravity onto a steel plate which had been pre-heated by blowtorch. The heat vaporized the gas for the start and the running engine kept the plate hot.
A little less than 66 years later, a man walked on the moon.

That is some cool E36 M3e right there. Saying it that way puts it in perspective.
Do they have the Graveyard of the Atlantic museum open yet? Also, there is an Aquarium in Manteo that's really nice. Great place to go if it rains.
Also, get a 4x4 and go see some horses in Duck. Banker ponies. Some of the last wild horses left in the U.S.
A VERY STRONG second for the Wright Brothers complex. It's a blast, easily a half-day. There is an outfit there (can't remember the name) who does wind surfing and lessons/rentals for that type of stuff.
My family's favorite restaurant is Millers Waterfront in Nags Head on the sound side (west) of the main highway. I haven't been to Port O Call in years. It was good when we went, but was pricey. We have been renting a house for the last couple years, so we eat out less.
We usually spend atleast a half day driving to see a few of the lighthouses. Hatteras is about an hour drive from Nags Head and they have a little museum.
My personal favorite is to rent a 4x4 (mostly jeeps or old land cruisers) from one of the places in Duck/Corolla and take them up north on the beach highway and wander around looking for the wild horses.
Less than 3 weeks til I'm there
