My dads shallow well won't hold a prime. Could he be to deep? He's only 12 or 15 feet down. We do have a very high water table. 2 to 6 feet down. Could it be the brass flapper check valve? Maybe the couplers have come loose? We did tack weld them as we drove the well. We think it may have something to do with the check valve, as it will loose it's prime even while pumping. Any ideas?

Could use a little more info, but with that low a lift I'd guess you're using a jet-pump. If it's losing its prime even when it's running you have a leak above the water table, sucking in air until it ruins the vacuum and won't lift anymore. Could be a shaft/impeller seal, loose clamp, cracked pipe, crack in the housing, leaky joint...something like that. That's where I'd look first. Assuming I've guessed right on what pump you're using. You can use a length of fuel line hose, like the old school SU carb balancing trick, to listen for a hissing around the joints and such. Sometimes you'll get situation where it only leaks enough to find it when the pumps is running and making more vacuum.

If I'm wrong, lemme know. I'll have other ideas.
