Woohoo!
My 10 year old son announced he wanted to go on a run with me. OK. He's been in a running club at his elementary school. So Saturday morning I get him up to go running with me. Wasn't expecting much, but I figured we'd have a good time.
Shoot, that kid ran 3 miles without skipping a beat! 4th mile was rougher, and we called it quits then. That was fun! He's a lot more runner than I knew. or even suspected. He's fascinated with the idea of running a 5k. I've never run one, love the idea of doing one with him.
Then Monday (which is still my weekend) I went for my evening run. Feeling good, real good, so I decided to push it on the speed. Did 3 miles in just under 20 minutes. Dang! I'd planned on doing a 5 mile run minimum, but I was feeling rather huffy-puffy by the end of that 3 miles, so I stopped. But I'm so impressed with my speed!
And for the record, I've been doing 5-10 miles runs 3 times a week.
Very cool. It's great to get the little ones involved. It's amazing what they can do.
My wife and I are both into fitness. We're mostly into bodybuilding, but we do some running too. Last weekend, we ran a 5K charity race at my wife's work. It's our 4th year doing it. They also have a 1 mile "fun run" for kids before the race starts. My 7 year old son wanted to do it. He's an average size kid, not heavy, not skinny. As "active" as he is, he doesn't practice running. We made it about 100 yards before he was out of gas. Had to turn around, lest we drag him the rest of the way.
My wife and I finished the 5K within 9 seconds of each other (I was ahead of her... ). The course is extremely hilly, the last hill is at the end of the race and is long and steep. I finished in about 27:30. On a flat course, I can do 5K in about 22:00 easy. There were kids at this race 11-13 years old who outran me...
We're shooting for a half marathon in August.

Not what I expected when I clicked this thread. I'm happier with this thread.
Large bear population near you? I though man only ran from bears.
Anyways, congrats on finding something cool to do with your kid!
The best I ever did in cross country was 6 miles in 60 minutes...I was the heaviest kid on the team by at least 40 pounds, but I kept chugging along.
I recently got back into running, but I'm still not as fit as I used to be.
I wish I had time to go for really long runs around here, eight miles of hilly terrain is fun but at mile sixteen you'd pay blood to avoid climbing or descending one more hill.
I'm certainly glad that's the kind of runs you were talking about. I'd pictured splattered bathroom walls.
Sorry, but I keep seeing the title of this post when looking for others and it kind of grosses me out.

everyyear on my birthday i make it a point to go running ( i have like no cartilage in my knees so i normally just rollerblade) but i do a 10 mile run on my birthday every year to make sure i can still do it in less than 70 minutes.
10 consecutive 7 minute miles? Is that even possible?

yes very possible. i die after it. if i were to do a marathon or the like id prob have to run in the 8:30 to 9:00 range to get that much distance.
Right now, I can barely make it 2 miles jogging, so I think that being able to run a mile is an accomplishment in and of itself.
When I was in high school, I couldn't even jog 1/4 mile.

and male college runners run the 15k in under 54 minutes (9.3 miles
Wow. I was expecting a tale of horror and hospital visits or something. Then in the first sentence I see the word son and think damn I hope he's alright. I'm still trying to decide if you did it on purpose.

I have short legs and family history of bad knees. Running and I do not get along. I'll swim or skate for my exercise.
