Saw one of them on the road here yesterday, couldn't get my phone out in time unfortunately. In fact it looks exactly like a white one we were all laughing at on Craigslist a while ago, complete with trashy fake exhaust headers sticking out the side of the hood.
What are those called again?
Zimmer? They were actual purpose built cars, not exactly sure what the purpose was.
There are a few, and the type is called "neo-classic."
Excalibur is another brand often built off thunderbird
Didn't realize there are so many! The one I saw looked most like a Zimmer. You could clearly see that the cabin was an '80s American land barge.
I think it was one of these, an '86 Zimmer Golden Spirit:
I vaguely remember one that had an Opel GT body in the center instead of a Seville.
And another based on a TBird.
MPD here in D.C. uses a Panther Kallista for promotional purposes.

You can still buy one! New!
And for a mere $238,700 you can have one of these in your garage:

Excalibur was the most common one I remember. I loved them in the early 80's. I was a kid/early teen and loved all kinds of cars. Someone in my town had one and I used to stare at it every time I saw it.
Then again, I loved most things '80's and am not afraid to admit it. It was fashion at the time. I had a mullet (I'm nearly bald now...of course), I loved Michael Jackson, I sometimes wore Polo shirt with the collar up (we bought them on clearance at TJ Maxx), I had a Swatch, and was an arcade junkie. What can I say, but totally awesome dude!!!!
I went poking around on craigslist/ebay thinking old Zimmers must be relatively cheap given how ugly they are, and it might be worth making one fast for the giggles- they're really expensive! Back to wondering if I can get one of those stupid Gazelle kits under challenge budget...

The pinto gazelle wouldnt be a bad platform. Throw some hot rod suspension parts at the front, a turbo lima, zetec svt, or a duratec would be a great upgrade. Maybe a 5 lug conversion with a 8.8

Please don't sully the Kallista by lumping it in with those god awful looking contraptions. The Kallista was at least a true type approve production car with totally unique body and chassis. It used a combination of Ford and Vauxhall mechanics like many low volume British cars, but it wasn't anything like those rolling turd mobiles. There was even at least one run in production car racing in the 80's in the UK.
Horrible, they're called horrible.

This...isn't terrible. It's like a malaisemobile done right.

There's a chevette based 29 Mercedes for sale by me. It's unfinished, missing pieces and the guy wants $10,000

Some part of me is attracted to this. It's not a part I'm proud of, however.
Actually, I think it's because it reminds me of the '66 Toronado which has long been one of my favorites.
In reply to SilverFleet:
Thank you. That was awesome.

If I had fistfuls of cash I'd collect a stable of all these, and take a different one to a different swanky restaurant each night of the week just to see how many patrons lose their appetite/dinner upon it's appearance.

I can't believe nobody's mentioned Stutz yet, but then again they were a 70's thing.
Elvis loved his Stutz Blackhawk
Barry White supposedly owned this Stutz Bearcat

And now I want a 66 Toronado.
