Where do you find time to look at/listen to all that stuff?

Be a true GRM tech guy and host your own cloud. I do. I use a software package called Powerfolder to host a private cloud for my startup company. Cost is only $10 a year, so that works.

I would imagine it would be very effective for, let's say, a media company. Its tied directly into my backups, syncs with all clients, and can even track versions of files.

Also NMNA.

Owncloud + a NAS/Server/Raspberry Pi is the route I intend to take. I think the cloud will become a common, even necessary accessory to home storage, but not replace it entirely.

I have something like half a terabyte of GoPro video from only two seasons of racing. (I also have around two terabytes' worth of DVDs sitting on the shelf, and it's not a big shelf.)

The thing with hard drive space is that you can leave it on the drive and archive-in-place instead of burning to CD, which seems to degrade faster than hard drives fail. It's not that one wants to rewatch/relisten to everything, it's that one MIGHT want to some day, and the space is cheap enough that it only makes sense to keep it.

What would cleaning out your garage be if your garage was the size of an airplane hangar?
