What critter makes this sound? We've heard it a few nights around 930/10pm.
We have fox & deer along with all the normal suburban rodents.
Is a critter making this noise or one of my neighbors?

Grassman. Pretty sure those are native to Ohio.
Squirrels actually make really weird noises too though.
I can't imagine how that could keep you up at night... Are you sure you're not living in, or next to, a real life horror movie?
Perhaps a Barn Owl? They've got a pretty good scream.
Sounds feline, cougars make a bunch of weird sounds, one of which sounds like a woman screaming and that sounds a lot like the hoarse version if that.
Could be a bobcat too, they make kinda......barking sounds that are hard to describe at times too
Yikes! Nuke from orbit? We’ve got something in the woods behind our New Hampshire house in the summer that sounds creepy but no where near that loud. ( We think screech owl in our case.) My wife would be putting the house on the market if she heard that!
Edit to add, I’ve heard raccoons “doing the deed” a few times while we were out fishing at night. It’s pretty disconcerting!
I'm going with bobcat. Regular domestic cats have a different sound.
Owls hoot outside my window at night and sound nothing like that. Other birds of prey aren't flying at night.
Squirrels aren't creatures of the night and have more of "chut-chut-chut" sound.
That's a fox. Heard the same thing when i let my dog out one morning and she chased after it. Called her back in and got a flashlight and the neighborhood Fox was in my yard yelling at me.
Evan beat me to it. Red Fox. Vulpes vulpes.
That is the male announcing he has a penis and wants to use it. They do make that call at other times but its a bit more whiny and plaintive. In the spring when they are all trying to get busy making kits, you get that scream. Sounds like someone is stranglling an 8 year old kid.
Edit: Also learned that both males and females make this scream. I learned today.
Father in law says it is a red fox.
He's an avid hunter/fisher/trapper type so I'm inclined to believe that.
edit- didn't see the vid when posting.
Thanks y'all.
Mystery solved.
