I used to love spending time out there too, away from all the world. Wonder if I can find similar places in the Sumter NF up here?
I spent a couple of hours on Google Earth looking at the forest. Picked a couple of interesting things, punched the coordinates in the GPS and went and found them.
This is a boat landing I didn't even know existed.
If you go to the Forest website you can download and print a service road map.
I guess we are back to the connectivity thing again.
On my third desktop now, dial-up modem in '02 then upgraded to phone line DSL a few years later which is still adequate, no Fios here. I prefer a larger monitor, 24",over a laptop anyday. No real need for a laptop now but maybe in the future. Smartphone covers the mobile needs.
Almost two years into a Droid phone w/ 2 gig data/ month, never used it all yet. Cell number is primary contact now. Text very little. Some of my favs: Alarm, calendar, flashlight, level, calculator, camera, camcorder. CL posting app, AutoTrader, E-alerts, Facebook, Google, Photobucket, news stations, OnStar Remote, Scanner Radio, YouTube, Maps (no Nav). Bookmarks: GRM, CL, weather, ESPN, Wiki, CNN and local news. Cell is linked to my truck via Bluetooth, only way to phone on the road. S197 will have a Clarion w/ Bluetooth by the spring.
All this out of a 2.5 x 5 x .5 inch device in my pocket. Whodathunkit. Wouldn't know what to do w/o it now says the 55 y/o who once swore off the internet.

At minimum, a good smart phone. A fast high-speed internet connection and a laptop is plenty. I use it primarily to surf forums, download music and, ahem, 'entertainment.' That's about all I really need, and I'm 27. I don't see the point in a tablet, iPod, etc... yet. I try to keep the games and other BS to a minimum on all devices. I got over my gaming phase a few years back. I'll still get on the PS3 at my parents, but that's just a time killer to me. I enjoy the sun, and paying attention to people when I have interactions.
