Good evening all,
As a former fan of Speed Channel I have attempted to stomach the appalling crap Velocity puts out day after day. Is there NO PROOF READING being done on the cobbled together scripts??? Who gives them the license to degrade/misrepresent Mopars?
Just watched a re-run of Wrecks to Riches where they built a 69 (they said) Road Runner to sell on E-Barf..... I pity the $75+K buyer too.
They took a $1500 1968 Satellite 2dr hardtop rusty shell, blocked in the side marker light holes (so they must have thought nobody would notice), threw a 1969 grille on, glued or ?? a 69 6-pack scoop to a Satellite or Belvedere hood...... This was to be some sort of Special Ride at the SEMA show in Vegas?
Velocity we are NOT stupid and do not give credit where NONE is due.
BTW They bought this 1968 Plymouth, so it must of had a title for THAT YEAR, right? They advertised it on E-bay as a 1969. THEN sold it across state lines.
My Resume contains some of the nicest Mopars that have Cruised Woodward here abouts. All done 90% by me and my sons. We don't do the paint work.
If you're going to attempt to misrepresent Mopars on TV, how about getting hold of somebody who KNOWS the brand? It WILL add to the entertainment value when what you are doing is REAL & CORRECT. This kind of shoddy writing and directing doesn't shine well on the sponsors either.
Thanks
Terry

Complaining to Velocity via the GRM message board doesn't strike me as effective.
As I noted elsewhere, most of these shows are produced/made first, then sold to Velocity. They really don't have much involvement in the making of the individual shows.
Graveyard Carz is at the opposite end of the Mopar spectrum; total accuracy in restoration and fine attention to detail. Unfortunately for most of us, it is produced for entertainment first and showing vehicle restoration a very distant second.
I never thaught I would say this but I miss the speed chanel. I bashed it more than once but now that it is gone there is a big void.

Sadly, it would be far more entertaining if they stuck to focusing on the actual restoration work. The "entertainment" is hugely unentertaining.
The good:
Wheeler Dealers
Chasing Classic Cars
Fifth Gear
Classic Car Rescue (mostly)
Café Racer
Overhaulin' (when it's on--WTF with the 3 show "seasons"?)
Specials like Patrick Dempsey LeMans
So it's still worthwhile IMHO
Not on Velocity, but it's a bummer to see Fast N' Loud going super corporate. I predicted it last year and it came true in spades.
So the Bandit T/A was built for a rich dude who paid them a fortune to build it--but it's magically getting raffled off in a contest??? Explain plz???

I'm glad they became enough self-aware to just be ridiculous. How can you not love Paul Williams being all Paul Williamsy for no real reason. Sure beats each week being a retread of "See Richard haggle to lowball for a car. See shop thrash to finish car for an auction. See Richard lose his ass at said auction because 'the crowd wasn't right.'" Then again, I'd be even happier if Sue was the focus of the show.
Street Outlaws, OTOH, yikes. I'm worried how many IQ points I lost from watching an entire episode. Street racers trying to fly under the radar, yet they always seem to race beneath the entire inventory of portable light towers from an equipment rental place...
I'm digging what little I've seen of MAV TV. I think it's mainly a sense of nostalgia for all the Diamond P stuff on The Nashville Network when I was a kid. Can't wait to see the Chili Bowl live.
CBS Sports Network seems to be consistently having dirt racing on Sunday nights recently too.

This is a good point. It does appear that they're like "OK--we're starting to make some serious money on this highly-rated show--let's have some fun with it!"
However, when non-actors try to act, it comes up flat fairly often. Their builds are so good, plenty of focus can go on them.
Wheeler Dealers has barely changed its format over the years. American execs would say "the audience is gonna get bored with just wrenching--change it up!!! Add plotlines!!!" Meanwhile, we haven't gotten bored with watching Edd wrench. It's still fascinating.

I just watch it to awe at Edd's hair.
