We came across this while walking the dog. Animal rooting around? Space aliens? This is behind someone’s fence, so not a heavy traffic area.
Looks like evidence of mating muskrats.

How big is it? It's fawn season, and mama deer will find a nice fawn-colored patch in a place that feels safe where she can leave the baby while she goes foraging. They'll spend most of a day there before Ma comes and picks them up.

Just in case, I'd carry a towel with you for a while while walking in that area. Being a really hoopy frood is optional, but highly recommended whether or not you end up hitchhiking.
