We need a handy way to mount a cell phone to our mini van's dash for normal gps/nav needs. I've seen the magnetic ones that slip a disc inside of the phone case or stick one on. Anyone have any recommendations on brands before I go trust the amazon review farm bots?

Not magnetic, but it's also a wireless charger. I bought this for the Tib and love it.

Oh, cool.. That's a good idea. Thanks!
I use one of these in my truck: https://mobarmor.com/mob-mount-magnetic/
The steel disk sticks to your dash and interfaces with the magnet on the phone holder.
I have one called Cellhelmet that I like. There was one that did a big marketing thing on FB (can't remember the name dangit) that works pretty well, but you can't tighten the adjustment enough and it keeps vibrating down so your phone looks at the floor.
We have the wizgear from Amazon in all of the cars. Works great, even works for autocross.
The one I linked is also what took my on track videos. So it's rated to 115mph at least!

These are cool because the magnet is on the phone side. At that point your phone sticks to any metal surface. Car hoods, etc.

I use the lime green and black one that $11 at oriellys. Have had six of them for over 100k total usage miles....
Edit: this one
I have been using Scosche Magic mounts for a bit now. I am a bit picky and skeptical of people's claims if various products but this has worked well.
in our CRV I use a vent mount which is so so. I rad wobbly but it has never fallen.
for 8-10+ hours a day I use the dash suction mount in a Mack truck. Never fallen. Never shifted. Same spot for months through warm and cold and blazing direct sun. . I consider that a home run as the trucks ride far rougher then any car/truck.
I am honestly impressed. That's high praise from a skeptic like me. And it was all on sale at Costco to boot.

I have a couple different ones. The Miata and the RV have these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0721D4NPP
Works pretty well and haven't had any difficulties getting it to stay adhered to the dash. But it's just a magnet that sticks to the dash so your phone faces that one way and that's it.
The B.U.T.T. didn't have a good place on the face of the dash to put that, so I bought these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XCRZZTW
Being able to mount that one on the top of the dash is nice because then the phone is nearly vertical and it has a range of adjustability. The problem that I've had with it is that the weight of the phone pulling down eventually peels the adhesive off. It just fell off again this week after I used contact cement instead of the 3M double-sided tape that they ship with it. I'm thinking about drilling a couple holes and riveting it to the dash, but that's a lot of commitment.
The vent holders are sub-optimal for me for two reasons: First I'm concerned about blowing hot air on my phone while it's charging and working and already getting a bit hot. Second, I don't like that it blocks the air from hitting me.
When the adhesive fails on the one in the B.U.T.T., I revert to this cradle-type mount that I got a few years ago. It goes in to the CD player slot and then you turn a thumbscrew to expand it so it locks in place. I see that they have versions of that now that have the magnet on a ball and socket mount instead of the spring-loaded cradle and I'm considering getting one of those all of a sudden. I like that style of mount in the Mazda 5 and in Ford trucks because the radio is mounted up high, I never use the CD player, it's very secure, and it doesn't leave any adhesive residue on or holes in the dash. Now that you made me go look, I'm thinking about trying this one: https://www.amazon.com/SCOSCHE-MAGCD2-MagicMount-Universal-Magnetic/dp/B01MYHD29Y

Tens of thousands of miles in a Peterbilt and I don't think my phone has ever come loose, even in Michigan, Louisiana, or Oklahoma where bumpy road building is a source of local pride.
I have a bigger phone so I use two of the stick on magnets lined up vertically and I found taping the metal pad to the phone helps.
Thanks for all of the detailed responses, everyone!
