I've seen signs in Chicago saying "Don't feed the Hipsters," and some people muttering, "berkeleying hipsters," so... what exactly is a hipster? And why, if at all, should I dislike or be weary of them?
I assumed its just a styling/idealism fad like Emo and Grunge.
Those three should help you spot one.
Ug, I used to describe what a hipster is, but now everyone does it. I'm so over that. I bet you like Coldplay. Yeah I liked them before everyone heard of them. Now they suck.

The 'hipster' is just the current theoretical cultural whipping boy, like the 'punk' of the '80s and the 'slacker' of the '90s. It's a convenient place for those that are no longer among the cultural tastemakers to dump their insecurities and resentment.
Really, don't worry too much about defining it. There will be another group in 5-7 years.

Amused? Yes. Mostly because of the parallels to what my generation did 20+ years ago.
PBR has always sucked. Hipsters can have it as far as I'm concerned.
