Looks like I'm getting sent back to RTP for the end of this week and beginning of next. Any fun car stuff going on? I will have a rental and nothing else to do over the weekend, so I'm open to suggestions.

Well, it looks like I'll be able to fly back Friday then head back down Sunday night, so crisis averted? I guess.
I'm staying at the Doubletree Suites by Hilton Durham, which is on Meridian Parkway in Durham. Having lived in the Boston area for the last 10 years, I'm used to driving 40 minutes to get anywhere, so food/drink suggestions are welcome regardless of distance.
I'll offer food and non alcoholic beverages and pro-touring muscle cars on Saturday outside charlotte....
You're going to be literally down the road from the Backyard BBQ Pit, which is seriously good stuff. It's at: 5122 NC-55, Durham, NC. Do understand that you might wind up eating in the parking lot leaning up against your car, they can get that busy. They don't look like much, but check them out.
Spice and Curry is on at the junction of Highway 54 and Highway 55 in the same shopping center as Taco Bell and Pizza hut. They have a good lunch buffet.
Brigs' is good for breakfast, they are also right in that area.
Bean Traders, a bit up Highway 54, has decent local coffee.
Just around the corner from that, there is a big mall (Southpoint) with movie theaters.
If you want to get a bit crazy, there is https://brothersvilgalys.com/ a place that makes Krupnikas, a honey liquor that is different from anything else I've ever tasted. They offer tours.
I'd offer to show you around, but I'm pretty booked this week.
I actually went to the Backyard BBQ Pit last time I was down there (last week). Best brisket I've ever had.
They approved my flights back and forth for Friday and Sunday, so i won't be there over the weekend anymore, but I will be by myself on the company dime for dinner on Thursday, Friday, Monday, and Tuesday, and I may or may not actually have work to do Wednesday.
If you're free Wednesday, and an ice cream freak, you should head out to Mapleview Farm, north of Chapel Hill. They are are working dairy farm that have their own quaint little country store. Finest ice cream you will ever have, period.

Was there last week. The Raleigh Beer Garden is definitely worth a spot if you have an even passing interest in craft beer.
Also stop at Cookout and get a Cheerwine shake.
Rum Runners is a good dueling piano bar downtown.

NOTE: It tends to be super-sweet and not nearly as high in milkfat as what qualifies to live up to the "the best" ice cream in some areas.
Here are some other ice cream options, albeit further away.

There are multiple brew pubs in the area. The http://raleighbrewingcompany.com/taproom/ has some good brew.
