My mom and dad pretty much drove used cars until after my brother was born. then he and my mom bought a brand new VW Beetle, don't know the year but I do remember it having a white shift knob which I think makes it a 1958 or so. At the time, my dad drove a huge bright yellow 1953 Caddy convertible, I don't recall what truly new car he bought first.
1963 Ford Falcon station wagon. With the 170 Special inline 6 and 3 on the tree!
Well, his was a 340, not an R/T. but same paint/hood combo
56 Ford Farlane w/contintental kit. Light blue and white. When he was dating my mom, he would park the car down the road where the pavement ended and walk the last 1/8 mile to her house.
He also had some Corvairs (three, I think). One ended up on top the dealership as advertising/sign in my home town of Connellsville Pa. I have seen pictures somewhere. Dealer was Palmer Chevrolet.
My dad's first new car was a 1967 Mercury Cougar. 289, 3spd
In this color (hotlinked, not his)
Found out a couple weeks ago, at my wife's aunt's funeral, that her husband's first new car was also a '67 Cougar, but in green.
4 speed with a 4.10 rear.
It was our family car until somebody ran into him in 1975 and totaled it. The clutch was so heavy that when my 4'11" mom drove it, the pedal sometimes came back a little too fast on the 1-2 shift. Hilarity ensued.
When he settled with the insurance, he bought the car back and parted it out. It lived the rest of it's life as a stock car.
These kinds of discussions show the range of ages of people here...my dad's first car was a 1919 Model T that he bought as a senior in high school in 1929. The only new car he ever had was also the last one he ever owned, a 1984 Dodge 600 - my brother was working for Chrysler at the time so he got the employee discount.
My Dad's first and only brand new car was an 08? Cobalt SS Supercharged 2-door, in Screaming Yellow. He has well over 100K on it now.
My Dad passed last year so I can't ask him, but I do remember a few pictures of him in some cars
66 AC Cobra
68 F100
69 Mustang Mach 1
Fiat 124
77 Mustang II T-top 4 speed V6
98 F150
2000 F150
That's it that I know he had new
Dad's first was a 1968 Dodge SuperBee in Aquamarine green with a 383 and a 4 speed. First one sold in Macon, GA. When the dealership tried to upcharge him for hubcaps and floormats he made them remove them, then drove the new car to Western Auto (remember them?) and bought 4 chrome "Dog Dish" center hbcaps for $10. Ran the car it's whole life with black steelies and chrome centers. Later that year he removed the black stripe around the rear quarters because he was tired of the Popo following him through the small towns. But he left the bee medallion.
My Grandmother told me that anytime he'd come home to visit, she would always have the porch light on at her small house in rural south Georgia. dad finally asked how she always knew since he never called. "Well son, I can hear you comin when you come off that dirt road onto the paved road a quarter mile down there!"
sadly, it was sold before I was born.
At least I get it honest. I grew up listening to crazy stories of him and his cousins or friends in the USAF in the early sixties. I'm just carrying on the tradition.
MG TD, don't know the exact year.

1966 Pontiac Ventura - mom killed it - kept driving when the red light came on.

Dad's FIRST car was a '33 Chevrolet Eagle Six phaeton. This was in about 1944-45. He drove that until about 1954 when mom and he had my second sister. At that point his father gave him a somewhat-used '52 Plymouth wagon. This later got traded for a used '54 Chevy base model sedan, which he trimmed out like a Bel Air. That lasted until I was on the way (4th kid) at which point he bought this:
His was gold, and he added a black vinyl top. First new car he ever bought, and first with an automatic transmission. It didn't come with seat belts - they were optional - but he added them as soon as he brought it home.
Two years later, after Mom learned to drive (thanks to the automatic), he bought the second new car ever - for Christmas of '66 he bought her a '67 Le Mans ragtop, which I still have.
This isn't it, but I have a picture of it somewhere. 1973 Mach 1 with a 351.
I wish he still had it.
My dad went through many cheap used cars until after he got married, but my mom's first car was a brand new one of these
Same color, notch back, don't know if she had the vinyl top. Her's was a straight 6 with a stick shift, probobly not those wheels either.
Lotus Cortina. Sadly, it has been fairly downhill since then.
Not sure, probably a 1927 Stutz. Then again it could have been several cars of that vintage since he was a dealer for some.
Maybe being a dealer doesn't count.

The first one that I remember, a '59 Invicta.
A one-tone, darker shade of green and followed a few years later by a '62 LeSabre sedan.
My dad's first new car wasn't all that glamorous, second generation ford escort. I think he splurged since my brother chose military service over college, and I was fortunate enough to get a partial scholarship to school, freeing up a little money.
The first car I remember him having was Ford Pinto wagon. I still remember the day it died, as I was with him on the way to the races.

First used car was a 57 T-Bird. His first new car was a 75 Gremlin with the 258 six cylinder, overdrive, and Levi's interior package.
dad's first new car was a '50 dodge, IDK the model. mom's first new car was a '50 chevy fleetline deluxe.
their next new car was an '84 t-bird. they raised 6 kids on a tool and die maker's salary in between new car purchases.
Found out my dad's 1st 'new' car was one of these: 1974 cougar xr7, blue with vinyl top, blue interior. Appearantly it had a massive engine and no power at all. Also, it was my parents first post wedding new car, until then my dad had only driven used beaters.
(hotlinked, that's not my dad leaning against it)
Now where's the "What was your first new car thread?"

Remind me to introduce you to Bob next door next time you come down. He's a retired Tool & Die guy. He's got some nifty E36 M3 in his garage.
I'm not 100% per cent sure, but I think my father's first new car was a 1952 Dodge MeadowBrook (a fairly big, sky blue, 4 door sedan)...I was born about the time they bought it so I can't say for sure that he hadn't owned another new car before that. The Dodge was replaced by a new 1955 Ford Country Sedan (a red and white wagon with red and white interior), which was replaced by a new 1958 Chevy Brookwood wagon (turquoise and white) and then a new 1960 Ford wagon again.
My father prefered Chevys and Dodges, trucks in particular because growing up on a farm that was what he drove. But when it came to cars, he tried all the major brands...until a friend of his bought out a small town Ford dealership. That 1960 Ford was the beginning of a string of new and used Fords and Mercurys.
After that 1958 Chevy, even if my father's friend hadn't bought his dealership, my Mom wouldn't have let him buy another new Chevy. She really hated that '58.
